  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Heheh I hate to say but I love that crazy frog...
The tune is catchy (even though the guy who released it is obviously just trying to make money coz he didnt even write it himself...) and the frog is funny (ish...)
Maybe we could start a petition or something to get him to donate some of the proceeds to live 8 or make poverty history or something...? :)

Live 8 is not collecting money, the official reason for it is to raise awareness of poverty and to create pressure for action. now, in my opinion, its purpose is to raise awareness of the flagging careers of failed popstars and to make people buy their records...

Make Poverty History is a self-righteous group who confuse wearing your heart on your sleeve with actually doing something to help people - and their bands are made in Chinese sweatshops.

both of these things exist to alleviate middle class liberal guilt that we have so much and Africa has so little. it will do nothing to change the causes of Africa's poverty - corruption, totalitarian/authoritarian regimes, civil wars, oppression, controlled markets, lack of property rights, no rule of law... etc.

Ok well that's me told... :o

Ah well you know what i meant... Money would be better spent on the people in Africa than on some crazy frog...

And at least the bands raise awareness... they're not brilliant but they do raise money for a good cause.

lol.
I do apologise for my tone. it is just that this kind of thing does really bother me!

certainly, which is why our govts should not give money to corrupt dictators, but should give to charities that work directly with the people, like ChristianAid or CAFOD.

maybe a special crazy frog tax to pay for it?

they raise money...? they get poor working class and struggling middle class people to give their money... but these pop stars are all multi-millionairres!!! why don't they give up half of their own money? they could still live in luxury for the rest of their lives, and hundreds of millions would be raised for the poor in Africa.

That's the first time I ever heard it...some 2 or so years ago...and I did laugh. Now they've ruined it with that silly frog - to think that it's actually a UK number 1

Quite right...
Ah well...
Bono from U2 has donated quite a bit... hats off to him
Maybe the crazy guy who released it will take note and give some money...? Then again, he released it, so he can't be quite right in the head.

lol You sound like a member of the socialist workers party! They always expect 'the rich' to foot the bill too. How would you know how much the 'pop stars' give or don't give to charity?

I simply resent being lectured on African poverty by someone who will be taking a streched limo back to their palatial mansion.

Live Aid raised money for good causes...?
do you mean feeding the Ethiopian army?
assisting the Marxist governments forced relocation programme of people in the North?

Live Aid made people in Britain feel better and gave Bob Geldof a career. it did very little to help Africa.

And just because they see nothing wrong with enjoying some of the fruits of their talents/hard work this means they aren't allowed to speak out on such matters?

Utter garbage, I bought a memory card for my digital camera at the weekend which cost me £25. Gosh that's money I could have donated to charity, guess that means I can't 'lecture' anyone on poverty.

Where in the spectrum between memory cards and stretch limos is one allowed to spend on luxuries before you are allowed to lecture anyone on African poverty?

I am not going to define a specific income bracket...

but what Africa most needs is not more money, it needs political and economic reform and for the West to desist from stealing its best and brightest.
