  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone had a third injection yet? I Got my Covid booster shot yesterday. Since I’m an over-65 Boomer, I’m eligible. I got it through the Pfizer clinical trial in which I’m a participant. So I had another multi-page consent form to read though and sign in 3 places. I was glad to see that the recently recognized pericarditis/myocarditis was discussed. (Though these occur predominantly in adolescent and post-adolescent men.) I also got another nasal swab for viral testing and another blood draw checking for antibody titers, and activated B and T cells. This is the 5th blood sample in the past year. Pfizer still hasn’t released the results. Which kinda ticks me off. I’ve read that in patients who’ve contracted and recovered from Covid, circulating antibodies tend to decline after a month or so. But cell-mediated immune memory persists. It’s crucial to know if the vaccine- immunity acts the same. Anyway, my arm was more sore after the 3rd dose than after doses 1 and 2. Still not bad—about a 3 on the 10 point pain scale. And mostly gone as of this writing. I’ve had not any other side effects. At least not so far. Because it’s part of the clinical trial, the booster process took over 2 1/2 hrs. But I got my shot, and I got paid for my time.

BTW, this Sunday is the start of Nobel Prize week. The people who developed mRNA vaccine technology should get it.

I think it's a bit early for that. There is still a lot of potential in that technology, for example regarding cancer treatment.

No, but my mother-in-law has.

The advice, and I don't know if it's worldwide or just UK, is that you can have it 6 months after your second jab.
So that makes me end of November.

I plan to get one when it's available to me, and when the right amount of time has passed. Given I have only been fully vaccinated for a few months I imagine it's too early for a booster right now.

Good information! I am right at my 6 month stage to get #3.

I know this is a point of contention for some people. I know many who have had the shots and many who haven't.

For me, I chose to have them. I am nearly 69, active, in good health; no underlying issues. Had mild COVID in early January.

Felt a little unwell for 1 day after the first one, then fine except for some fatigue. After the second shot in March I felt zero after effects and the fatigue went away almost immediately.

No doubt about it. It’s been my understanding that Alfred Nobel’s intention was to support young scientists, doing groundbreaking work that showed promise for the future. But over the decades, the prizes have been given largely to mature people, whose work may have been innovative at one time, but is now accepted doctrine. Instead of encouraging future discoveries, the prize has become a reward for past service. Maybe it’s time to return to Alfred Nobel’s original vision.

Maybe it's time to keep the Nobel prize as it is and fund a new prize for the innovators of our time.
