@Desk trauma said that history wouldn't be kind to us and above is your reply to him.

Over 100 years ago, in 1918, US citizens experienced the Spanish flu pandemic without having the scientific knowledge that we have today they did everything they could to contain it and stop the spread, including wearing masks and shutting down travel into some areas that hadn't been infected yet.

Now look forward 100 yrs. having so much more scientific evidence and we can't even get people to take wearing masks seriously and worse yet demanding it's their right not to wear one and to infect other people.

We have become a me, me, me, the heck with you nation.
Yet, I can about promise you the death toll will be MUCH lower than fifty million, so that is the good news there.

Is this the new line in the sand after having your "not that much" percentages pointed out as being 3 or so million ?

Just stating that at this point it is VERY unlikely that anywhere NEAR fifty million people will die as a result of this virus.

There is a Twitter user, Dani Oliver who posted a series of tweets regarding the issues she is having in recovering from covid 19. The quality of life afterward is not all that great. We are going to have an extremely weakened populace. There is a reason the military is refusing new recruits who have had covid. I can't post the full info because she posted a few f bombs, but here is the first tweet.

Even the most dire estimates had no where near that toll so I don't see the relevance. Its like saying a hurricane was not that bad because it didn't preeminently inundate Florida.

I wonder though from what I read there may be some waivers that can be given to recruits.

I agree, but it seems that you missed the point.

I already agreed that was good, but the death toll was not the point of my post. Try reading it again.

It's been a while since I read that in the military times, so something may have changed, but this isn't a simple 3-4 week illness where it clears up and everything is back to normal. In addition to the hospital bills, some folks have ended up on dialysis and with long term breathing and heart conditions.

No, not everyone experiences the same lingering symptoms. But a significant percentage do. And even some "asymptomatic" patients show lung damage, though doctors think that it will likely heal after a few weeks to months. In the study referenced in the article linked above, over half of the asymptomatic patients they looked at showed lung damage on a CT scan. It's a small sample size, but still a relevant data point.

that is what I am saying they may have people a few years down the line who have had it and what they would do is after say two years ( just picking a number but not really soon or anything go in and if there is no lung damage let them join. They do that with certain other past conditions.

It's also not going to cause people to grow a second head, shall we count that as a win as well?

What is your point? That people break those laws?

I don't really know you so I am just curious if you are one who supports only certain laws. Like mask wearing but are opposed to drug laws. It seems that some folks, and I don't know if you are one or not, are for laws only for what they support. Such as against drug laws but all for mask laws. Using the same argument that we can't enforce drug laws but believe we can enforce enforce mask laws.

I am for requiring masks where it makes sense for as long as needed. Drug use should not be a crime in itself but illegal activity or endangering others through their behavior while using obviously should be.

Some people ( college students in particular) seem to be throwing covid parties to see who will get it ( sometimes awarding money to the first person to test positive. Remines me of reading about chicken pox parties.
It reminds me of jumping off tall buildings just to check if gravity still works. You know, just in case it stopped and no one noticed.
