In Ezekiel chapter 28 Ezekiel was told to speak unto the prince of Tyrus, and declare unto him that he has set himself up in the place of God, and has declared himself in his own heart that he is a God, who sits in the seat (or place of God) in the midst of the seas (which is also a similitude of peoples and Nations.)
But the Lord makes it clear in verse 2 “yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God.” So basically this man has replaced the knowledge of God with his own knowledge. But here is the mystery, we see in verse 13 the Lord said; “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God” And then also in verse 14 the Lord says “Thou art the anointed Cherub that covereth;”

By this we know the Lord is not talking about the literal flesh and blood Prince of Tyrus when he refers to this man. This man in scripture is also known as the Man of Sin who also will do the lusts of his Father the Devil. Many believe this covering cherub speaks of the Serpent, Devil, which also is Satan (Father of lies) and very well in spirit it does. But Satan is not a man, but is rather a spirit that works in man, which also causes the fleshy minded man to fulfill the lusts of his Father (Devil).

We are told in Ezekiel 28:15 “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” So who was in the garden of Eden, and was a man, and was created perfect in the day he was created? It was the firstborn Man. Genesis 1:27; “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. So man was created perfect in the beginning, just as our heavenly Father is perfect. But that perfection ended when iniquity was found in Man.

And that is where the mystery of iniquity comes in by way of the serpent who tempted through fleshy desire which also led to sin. It is this spirit that works by way of fleshy desire that covers up the truth with a covering of lies, and thus this spirit is also named the Covering Cherub. And just as Adam was cast out of the Garden of God, Satan was also cast out of the Mount of God by reason of his own iniquity. We are told in Genesis 6:3;”And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh

And this spirit of the flesh causes man to strive against the will of God. Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” It is the same struggle between those of the Light, and those who live in darkness, just as this world is in darkness by reason of the Prince of this world. He is that spirit which covers up the mind with a fleshy veil so the Truth cannot be seen.

We see similitude of this shown in the veil of Moses in 2 Corinthians 3:13-17;”And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

In this we see it is when we receive the Holy Spirit of God that this veil of covering is removed from our hearts and minds. We pass from the spirit of darkness and death, to the Spirit of Light and Life. We are born into this world under the bondage of sin byreasonofthe flesh, and the power of darkeness which is the nature of the firstborn man with whom that iniquity was found. We are born into that same spirit of iniquity by way of the nature of our firstborn man which also is earthly. Psalm 51:5;”Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” That is why we must be born again of God’s Holy Spirit.

But many, like the rebellious children of Israel who received not that Prophet, were given over to this spirit of darkness by reason of transgression. Just as the Lord warned them through Moses Deuteronomy 28:28;”The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:” And just as Paul warned the early Church not walk in the ways of others who refuse the knowledge of the Truth, and also walk in the ways of uncleanness. Ephesians 4:18;”Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart

But this mystery of iniquity which worked in the world by reason of this covering cherub and darkness would be allowed to prosper until it be taken out of the way, just as that blindness determined on many in Israel would removed after the fullness of the Gentiles is complete. Romans 11:25;”For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”

And it is only God who has the power to remove that covering from the mind, which He also has determined as part of His judgment. 2 Thessalonians 2:7;”For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And that covering of darkness shall be removed by the brightness of his coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:8;”And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming
Isaiah 25:7-8;” And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.”

And the fashion of this fleshy world will melt away. 1 Peter 1:24;”For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:”

In a pracitcal sense, What do you see the covering as?

The mind of the flesh, for the covering that covers is flesh.

Romans 8:6
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

That is the enmity between the serpent seed and the seed of promise.

Is this flesh what you see in the mirror every morning ?

It is the spirit of a lie that manifests itself in the firstborn nature of man.(which is earthly)

A spirit has not flesh and bone even though evil spirits can come into the body of man by corrupting the heart and mind. Just as the spirit of the anti-christ works in many.

The Son was the Truth/Life, therefore born of Truth/Father, so anything that is not this is a lie?

Yes, those who are born from above are born again of God's Spirit, and have the Lord's Christ dwelling in them, we therefore are sanctified in the Truth.

John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The explanation of Ezekiel 28 by InSpiritInTruth is so random and incoherent, lacking any real exegesis of the text, that it makes no sense at all. I'm a big fan of Ezekiel and I have a lot of honor and respect for the text. So I'm going to provide the close reading of the text that InSpiritInTruth did not provide in the hopes that confusions, distractions, and exterior issues will not be brought into what the scripture is saying. The translation is my own.

Ezekiel 28:1
Now, the word of YHWH came to him:

comments:
Typical oracular speech formula in Ezekiel. This introduces the first oracle of the chapter.

28:2
“Human offspring, say to the ruler of Tsor,
'So says Sovereign YHWH,
Because your disposition was haughty and you proclaimed “A god [am] I.
The abode of the gods, I abide, in the center of the seas,”
but you [are] a human, an un-god
and your mind was set like divine disposition:

comments:
This is set-up for something that follows. It proclaims the error of the ruler's thinking: he thinks himself to be god-like and his reign to be divine, but neither he nor his rule are divine. We can foresee at this point a prophesied catastrophe coming against him personally to prove that he, himself, is not divine and also coming against his city and province to prove that neither is his rule/dominion. The use of the epithet “Sovereign” YHWH points out who is actually the real ruler. It is not the king of Tyre.

But in what ways does he think himself a god? Why does he consider himself to reign over a people and place with divine sovereignty? The question presents itself immediately—particularly by the Hebrew, which says he sets his mind with divine disposition. So what is that disposition? His thoughts are then presented, mockingly, in what follows:

28:3
Look! Wiser than Dani'ale [are] you!
Every secret [thing] cannot be your equal!

comments:
God is not describing what the ruler is or was like—God is mockingly describing how the ruler thinks of himself (the “divine disposition” that God is rebuking him for). He thinks himself wiser than the great sage and king Danel, who is described in northern Phoenician and Syrian literature like that at Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra).

In the ancient Near East, to have wisdom was considered to know secret things. Sages could read and write—a mark of the elite—and delved into what were considered mysteries to everyone else. The King of Assyria (Ashurbanipal) once wrote, bragging of his wisdom, that he had read inscriptions predating the flood and solved all mysteries and difficulties. By saying there is no secret that equals his wise ability, the ruler of Tyre is boasting about his ability to know all things. Nothing his hidden from his understanding.

28:4
Through your wisdom and insight you made yourself powerful
and acquired gold and silver in your coffers.

comments:
Again, God is not describing what the ruler is or was like—God is mockingly describing how the ruler thinks of himself. Here, he thinks that is it is own wisdom and insight that made him strong and rich. Obviously, this is not the case.

28:5
Through your abundant skill and commerce, you increased your power
and your disposition was haughty in your influence.

comments:
The more he prospered, the greater he thought of himself and did not give glory to his Sovereign.

28:6
Therefore, so says Sovereign YHWH,
because you set your mind like the disposition of the gods.

comments:
Having described what he thought of himself, it now turns back to the consequence by using something called Repetitive Resumption. When a text takes off on a tangent and then returns to what it was going to say originally, it repeats what came before (Repetitive) to show that it is resuming the train of thought (Resumption). The Hebrew of this last line is only slightly different than before. The main differences are a definite direct object marker and the fuller spelling of the word “heart/mind/disposition/character.”

28:7
Therefore, I am bringing foreigners against you, the nations' tyrants.
They will unsheathe their swords against the grandeur of your skill
and they will desecrate your splendor.

comments:
Tyre will be overrun with the violent armies of foreign peoples who will turn what was beautiful and grand into ugliness and ruin. The use of the verb “to profane/desecrate” (in the Piel) furthers the idea that what was considered holy and sacred—a god's domain—has been reduced to what is unholy and foul.

28:8
They will throw you down to the pit
and you will die [with] the death-throes of the desecrated in the center of the seas.

comments:
The King of Tyre had thought that being in the center of the seas was a position of might and grandeur, but now that position will be turned into a grave.

28:9
Will you still say “Elohim [am] I” to the face of your assassin?
You [will be] a man, an un-god, in the grip of your desecrater.

comments:
God is challenging him to re-evaluate who and what he is. When this calamity comes to him, he will learn the truth of it.

28:10
In the grip of foreigners, you will die the death of foreskinned [ones]
because I have spoken,” proclaims Sovereign YHWH.

comments:
Most translations render the word “foreskinned” as “uncircumcised,” which is really a bad translation because it misses the entire point of the word. The point of the Hebrew is to highlight the PRESENCE of something (a foreskin), not the ABSENCE of something (the absence of circumcision).

The Egyptians practiced circumcision and this was adopted by the Phoenicians at Tyre and elsewhere:

“The Colchians, Egyptians, and Ethiopians alone of all the races of men have practiced circumcision from the first. The Phoenicians and the Syrians who dwell in Palestine confess themselves that they have learned it from the Egyptians, and the Syrians about the river Thermodon and the river Parthenios, and the Macronians, who are their neighbors, say that they have learned it lately from the Colchians. These are the only races of men who practice circumcision, and these evidently practice it in the same manner as the Egyptians. Of the Egyptians themselves however and the Ethiopians, I am not able to say which learned from the other, for undoubtedly it is a most ancient custom; but that the other nations learned it by intercourse with the Egyptians, this among others is to me a strong proof, namely that those of the Phoenicians who have intercourse with Greeks cease to follow the example of the Egyptians in this matter, and do not circumcise their children.”
--Herodotus, History, 2.104

So “the death of the foreskinned” is a death like one who is a filthy and unknown stranger. Like the bodies of their enemies that they might pass by on a street looking at with disgust and contempt.

Ezekiel 28:11 (continued)
Now, the word of YHWH came to him:

comments:
Typical oracular speech formula in Ezekiel. This introduces the second oracle of the chapter.

28:12
“Human offspring, raise a dirge over the king of Tsor
and recite to him, 'So says Sovereign YHWH:
אַתָּה֙ חֹו תֵ֣ם תָּכְנִ֔ית מָלֵ֥א חָכְמָ֖ה וּכְלִ֥יל יֹֽפִי
You [are] the appraiser of quality, full of wisdom and complete in grandeur.

comments:
There is nothing in the Hebrew to say this is something that used to be the case (you were X). Ezekiel is saying this dirge not because the king of Tyre and his dominion have already passed away (ie., he is no longer X)—rather, Ezekiel is proclaiming a dirge ahead of what is to come. The previous oracle stated many times that the King of Tyre would be killed and his dominion brought to destruction. So in the second oracle, Ezekiel is reciting the song of that death and destruction. But it has not yet happened.

The purpose of reciting a dirge over the living is not to say that the King of Tyre really is all these great things. Rather, it is a parody of how the King of Tyre thinks of himself as described in the previous oracle and what the reality of his situation will be become. The more flowery and grand the words, the greater the mockery and parody of the King of Tyre's actual situation.

28:13
You are in Ayden, the garden of Elohim.
Every valuable stone [is] your adornment:
אֹ֣דֶם פִּטְדָ֞ה וְיָהֲלֹ֗ם
ruby, topaz, and precious rock,
gem, jewel, and jasper,
sapphire, brilliant stone, both beryl and gold,
the craft of your settings and sockets [that] you bear.
On the day of your creation, they were cut.

comments:
Here the Hebrew makes it explicit that we are not talking about the past. The verb “to be” is Perfect, which means it is saying something about the way the King of Tyre is now or the way things are in totality. The King of Tyre IS in Eden, not “was,” not something that once was the case, but now isn't. The only way to say it might be past is if there were a Waw to identify it with the past tense. That Waw, however, is not there. Again, this is a dirge of the living (present), not the dead (past). It is a mockery of the sate of affairs, not a description of their truth.

The King is said to be in Eden, the garden of Elohim. Eden, of course, is not the garden of Eden, even though a garden is mentioned. The garden from Genesis was in the east of Eden (Gen 2:8 - בְּעֵ֖דֶן מִקֶּ֑דֶם - “in Ayden, from the east”), Tyre is at the utter west of Eden, as far west as you can possibly go before going under water. It is the complete opposite location and direction from where the garden of Eden in Genesis was. There is no possible way for this to be talking about the garden of Genesis. Rather, it is the western garden of the Phoenician and Syrian coast, the gateway to the seas, ruled by the Elohim (or gods) of the pagans.

The mockery tells of the King of Tyre's riches, the stones that adorn him. Many of these stones are unknown, so I translated them “jewel, gem, precious stone” or the like instead of creating some name for them that would probably be false.

The verb that is only used to speak of God creating things appears here at the end. It is YHWH who created this wealth and set the King of Tyre in this position. It is YHWH who clothed the King of Tyre in his power and authority. The purpose of using this verb is not to speak of some special, angelic creation, but to contrast with the King of Tyre's claims that he made himself who and what he is. And since YHWH made him what he is, that means YHWH can strip him of it all as well.

28:14
You [are] a considerable guardian, an adorned [one]
I gave you [your place].
You are on the holy mount of Elohim.
Back and forth you wander among fire-stones.

comments:
Again, this is a dirge. A lament for the dead. But the person is really still living. It is, again, using the Perfect form of the verb “to be” to say that this person IS something (you ARE on the holy mount). And, again, the purpose is mockery, not true description. The person is said to be on the holy mount of the gods, one who walks back and forth over stones of fire. This does not, of course, have anything to do with the garden of Eden in Genesis. There is no mountain of God in that garden and there are no stones of fire there either. It is speaking about the high and lofty position the King of Tyre holds over the land and it attributes this, again, to YHWH's doing—literally to YHWH's making, which again emphasizes the fact that the position the King holds is due to YHWH, not due to the King of Tyre.

“Many believe this covering cherub speaks of the Serpent, Devil, which also is Satan (Father of lies) and very well in spirit it does.”

The mention of adornment (covering) comes from the stones in the previous verse—things that were crafted and set in place over the King of Tyre by YHWH when the King was created. It is flowery metaphor for his wealth and power. It has nothing to do with something “in spirit.”

"But here is the mystery, we see in verse 13 the Lord said; “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God” And then also in verse 14 the Lord says “Thou art the anointed Cherub that covereth;”

Neither of these are mysteries. They are plainly stated by scripture. The King of Tyre is ruler of the pagan lands having nothing to do with the garden of Eden in Genesis—see above—and is mighty and wealthy because of YHWH.

“By this we know the Lord is not talking about the literal flesh and blood Prince of Tyrus when he refers to this man.”

There is nothing in the text to suggest something other than flesh and blood, as we have seen and as we will continue to see. Even the fact that this man is also called a cherub is nothing. Cherubs are images that represent guardians. They are used throughout the ancient Near Eastern world. That several cherubs (Genesis uses the plural “cherubim”) were used to guard the way into the garden of Eden after humanity was expelled from it (there is no mention of any cherub in the garden of Eden before that time), has nothing to do with a cherub/guardian at the western extreme of Eden on the mountain of Elohim, which did not exist in the garden of Eden.

“This man in scripture is also known as the Man of Sin who also will do the lusts of his Father the Devil.”

Blatant eisegesis that reads into Ezekiel something that is not there and has nothing to do with it.

“So who was in the garden of Eden, and was a man, and was created perfect in the day he was created? It was the firstborn Man. Genesis 1:27.”

The Garden of Eden has nothing do with anything in this oracle. This concerns a garden as far from the garden of Eden as one could possibly get. And the man created in the garden of Eden was not a cherub/guardian like this man is, which is a blatant disregard for Genesis as well. There is nothing—literally nothing here in Ezekiel to link it with Gen 1:27.

“And that is where the mystery of iniquity comes in by way of the serpent”

There is no “mystery of iniquity” in these oracles of Ezekiel. It is clear throughout what the King of Tyre's iniquity is. Blatant disregard again for Ezekiel and profound disregard for Genesis as well.

28:15
Blameless [were] you in your ways when you were created
until wickedness was found in you.

comments:
Other people in scripture are also said to be blameless. It has nothing to do with some angelic characteristic only applicable to creatures from heaven. Rather, it has to do with the fact that when YHWH made Tyre what it was, it wasn't deviating from him. It was following his way. Even pagans can follow YHWH. But it didn't last long. Eventually, Tyre turned from YHWH and gloried in itself. How did that happen? It goes on to say.

And this spirit of the flesh causes man to strive against the will of God.

There is nothing anywhere here in Ezekiel cutting up reality into a dichotomy of spirit and flesh. The flippant way you distort God's word is offensive.

28:16
Through your commerce, they filled your midst with violence and you sinned.
So from the mount of Elohim, I desecrated and destroyed you
from the midst of the fire-stones, Oh adorned guardian.

comments:

“And just as Adam was cast out of the Garden of God, Satan was also cast out of the Mount of God by reason of his own iniquity.”

There is nothing here about being banished or cast out from anywhere. The verb is the Piel that means to desecrate or to profane—and the means of it is slaughter. DEATH. This is DIRGE. Iniquity is surely the cause, but, again, there is nothing here about the garden of Eden or Adam. The King of Tyre is told he will be slain and taken down to the grave right where he is in the midst of the fire-stones—not cast out from the place of the fire-stones. Tyre used its commerce to sow violence and sin and it will reap the reward for it on the very mountain of God where it thinks it resides. That mountain will be turned to a grave. What was thought holy will be made unholy. That high place will be made low. What was grand and wealthy will be ruinous and penniless.

And today we can look back and see that it is so. Praise be to YHWH!

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.;)

True  Paul even says here...

1Cr 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

The covering covers the heart and mind with darkness.

Acts 26:18
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Colossians 1:13
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Those who sleep, sleep in the night.

2 Corinthians 4:4
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Just as the Prince of this darkened world has no part in the Lord of Light.

Joh_6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

These are truths or the leading into this all truth that are had only by losing your own soul. To this measure we understand the wisdom and knowledge of God.

It is the soul that measures, so what ever measure you meet it with is what is measured back to you.

Christ, the path that no fowl knows of and no vulture's eye has ever seen, is the narrow way, it has always been within. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one.
