I have mentioned that idea before as well. Covenant Theology is not limited to Calvinism, but I wonder if we could have a few threads about it here, perhaps even another (gulp!) sub-forum. I have only the most menial knowledge of Covenant Theology, being told that anything that wasn't Dispensational was a liberal theological view for most of my life.

I have rejected dispensationalism, and am looking into covenant theology. That sounds really lame, though, doesn't it? When you're seeking the truth, there is more to it than looking at the ads and clipping out coupons. You want to adhere to a system that is sound, not just one that is popular. Ultimately, the Theo must come before the Ology and I would like some discussion to show that Covenant theology adheres closest to the revealed plan of God.

My pastor has been butting heads with some of the elders of the church, by the way, as we are in Revelation and he has declared that the seals/trumpets/bowls are progressive views of the same period rather than the linear way they have been taught for years. He is a covenant theologian, but there doesn't seem to be enough interest in a class at church for this. Most of my learning has been through books and online and I would appreciate some of these things spelled out.

Hate to point you toward another book, but William Hendrickson's "More Than Conquerors" is a beautiful treatment of the progressive recapitulation of which you speak above.

A MUCH more heady treatment would be GK Beale's commentary on Revelation in the New International Greek Testament Commentary Series. It is an incredible piece of work (1500 pages!)

I am a firm believer in the progressive recapitulation structure of Revelation...mix this with a good dose of symbolic numerology and you have a pretty good take on things.

Covenant theology is something that Calvinists, Lutherans, Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans (and I'm sure there's more) can all come together to agree about (for the most part. I'm sure there would particular aspects here and there that we might not all agree about).
