That's an imaginative idea. However, I place this in the same category of airy philosophizing as solipsism. Without any evidence to conclude this speculation as true, there's not much point to take it seriously.

Philosophy is the love of wisdom, and that certainly has something to do with whether to take a question seriously or not.

I just wanted to encourage people to think outside of the box, no more, no less, but people seem to just want to criticise even presenting a question or comment of this nature rather than actually address it.

I suppose it could be... though for many people I'd think this life would be more good than bad... so are they being rewarded at the same time as punished?

If some peoples lives are more good than bad, I'd think that would disprove the idea that this is hell or purgatory. I'd say hell and purgatory require a net negative.

Interesting thought though.

Paradoxum beat me to the point, but I'd say NO for one good reason. Not everyone actually is living in fear or suffering.

While the idea that this life is hell or purgatory has been floated before, the fact is that some people are enjoying it! That means that this life cannot be hell or purgatory.

It isn't purgatory then... it's just another life. If there's a net enjoyment over dislike, then it isn't a punishment.

I have thought of it, but I don't believe it. All I know is when I die, I will be born again into God's beautiful perfect kingdom and it will be better than all the years of my life.
