  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could this generation of creationists be the last?

My guess is that after the USA collapses under the weight of debt and the anti intellectualism of the fundies, the Chinese who own and run everything will not care if creationism flourishes among the factory workers.

Chinese nationals own 99% of the wealth in philippines and some other countries in SE Asia. They dont try to stamp out Catholicism, its the opiate of the masses.
Here is something I always wondered. I know religion was outlawed during the cultural revolution, but the Chinese government seems to have gotten more lax after Mao died. What religion are most of the Chinese now? And what were they 100 some years ago. Buddhist comes to mind, but there aren't that many Buddhists and China has 1.5 billion people, did that change recently?

(sorry for question overload)

i actually dont know. The CIA factbook is a good source on that sort of thing.

Youd find that educated Chinese my age are seldom interested in religion at all.

and Hong Kong has its own history
It appears to have the marks of a country that had religion oppressed and nearly wiped out. When the policy loosened everyone kinda picked up whatever beliefs their parents or local cultures had preserved. Russia has rebounded exceptionally quickly.

Every Chinese city has one or more churches. On every Sunday, people filled every church inside (include the stairway) and outside and to the front (and back) yard. Loud speakers are used to make the singing and message heard outside the building.

And, this is just one cockroach seen on the surface.

One per city? That's like none considering the population in China.

i have some relatives who are still hard core maoists, they are as tiresome and mired in dogma as fundies.

Mao actually did a fair amount of good, along with all the harm.

To some extent it is the communist party that reduced interest in religion, partly its a matter of sophistication. Japanese for example are very sophisticated people, and consequently christianity doesnt do much for them either.

I dunno. i do know that none of my japanese acquaintances are any more religious than a housecat.

The japanese who do some religious observance are very seldom christians.
let alone fundies.
