industry vs agricultureOr better yet, why was the economy in the North better than the economy in the South prior to the US Civil War?
It does not say you can beat your slave. It says: If you beat ...
In OT time, God's people did many things that they should not do.
So is today.
Well it does say that merely beating your slave is not to be punished. Isn't that the same as saying you may beat your slave?
If you have a good reason, can you beat people who are not slaves?
Of course not. If a slave made a serious mistake, he should be punished.
Your slave is a human. You can not beat him without a good reason.
Can you give us some examples, of when you are justified, to beat people?
I see nothing in the verse as to whether the slave deserved the beating or not. It merely says there is no penalty if I beat a slave and the slave lives. After all, it wouldn't be logical for me to diminish the value of my slave to myself if I injure him, now would it? So the slave has that protection.
Ex 21:20-21 If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property.
NASU
This is an evil law. Slavery is evil. Beating without any punishment for the beating is evil. The law of God in the OT is a compromise between what God really wanted and what men would accept as law.
God's command is NEVER evil, then and now. Slavery is only evil when handled by human. It is not an evil system facilitated by God. But it is a system which disclosed the evil nature of human. If slavery shows the evilness of God, then you may also allege that genocide ordered by God is hundreds of times more evil. If so, I suggest you to abandon Christianity as soon as you could.
Brother, I encourage you, have 100% faith in God's word. There has to be high reward for doing that. I don't understand the verses you quoted completely. But I think it is due to my ignorance. And I believe it is a perfect commandment to ancient Israelis who God loves so much. I will NEVER say any of God's commandment is evil. That is an abomination. We are God's slaves. We should not question our Lord.
God created evil. You can only have free will and love if there is evil. If you choose not to do the will of God that is your choice to do evil. If you choose not to walk in love then you have made a choice to be unloving or evil.God's command is NEVER evil, then and now. Slavery is only evil when handled by human. If your not a Christian then you are a slave to sin. The physical is an object lesson to teach people what is going on in the Spiritual. To live in the flesh according to the old nature is bondage. To be born again and live in the Spirit is freedom. Abraham's Child with Sarah his wife was the free child. Abraham's child with Hagar his wife's handmaiden was the flesh and the child of bondage. The flesh and the spirit battle. To this day the Hebrew Children battle against the descendants of Ishmael that formed the Arab and Muslim nations.Exactly. Seems god's plan of "indentured servanthood" was a bust.
We always have a choice if we want to do good or evil. Serve God or the devil. The challenge is to do good and to return good when people are evil or mean toward us. God calls us to walk in love. For those that walk in God's love life gets better and better. For those who live in rebellion their live goes from bad to worse. If you have a good reason, can you beat people who are not slaves?

It was your imagination. Now you asked me to give you example.
Fine, it is not a hard thing to do.
If that person asked me (or rewarded me) to beat him, I will do that with witnesses and recorders on the side. How hard would I beat is my discretion.
Slavery was, is, and always shall be, evil.
Will you agree to that?
Jesus answers that question in the Sermon on the Mount, the greatest sermon every preached. It is to long to quote here but he says: "Love Your Enemies 31"Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.33"If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.…Would this mean, all non believers can not love and are evil?
Sorry I thought it was rhetorical. "If you have a good reason, can you beat people who are not slaves?" I do not beat people myself. While I am not a conscious objector because there are situation when I will defend myself, I still am not an aggressor when it comes to physical violence.Doesn't answer the question.
