  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I'm not good at non-verbal praying. I always pray, talking, but the talking exacerbates my cough indescribably. I feel guilty not doing my prayers the way I want. I want to go back to regular praying again but my coughing is too brutal. I got a prescription for it but there are negative reviews about it. It is called benzonatate. I was told it was a non-drowsy cough medication but that's not what the warning on the bottle says. That means I can't experiment with my first dose until an hour or two before bedtime, and that's some waiting yet.

I got tested negative for the flu, got tested for covid I think, and it's probably covid due to the flu being negative, but I'll see.

edited to add: darnit the after-visit summary in my patient portal shows I got tested for influenza A and B, but doesn't indicate that I received a covid test. that means I may have to go on Monday to get another one.

I hope you start feeling better! If you drink tea, sage tea is great to help control coughing. But don't worry so much about prayer. God understands, he's loving like that. Maybe for the time being write your prayers? Maybe that might help. Anyway, praying that you start getting better soon. <3

That's a good idea :)

Writing before bed helps me get sleepier than just reading, even though the latter has some effect.

There's a chance that by writing, though, my prayers will be shorter, but I think I'm being a bit too legalistic on that.

Hey, shorter is better than nothing right? That way you don't give yourself a coughing fit too! Prayers are quiet time with God. So just spend time with him, even if its short, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Try tulsi basil tea. It's a known remedy for your symptoms. Take it with raw honey.

Here are 10 key benefits of tulsi:

Stress & Anxiety Relief: As an adaptogen, tulsi helps the body cope with physical and emotional stress, promoting calm and mental balance.

Immune System Booster: It enhances immunity by supporting immune cell production and fighting infections.

Respiratory Health: Helps relieve coughs, colds, bronchitis, and asthma by dissolving mucus.

Antioxidant Powerhouse: Rich in antioxidants (flavonoids, polyphenols) that combat free radical damage.

Anti-inflammatory: Reduces inflammation, beneficial for joint pain and chronic conditions.

Digestive Support: Aids digestion, reduces gas, bloating, and indigestion.

Heart Health: Helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, supporting cardiovascular function.

Blood Sugar Regulation: Can help maintain stable blood sugar levels, useful for managing diabetes.

Skin & Hair Health: Its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties fight acne, promote clear skin, and strengthen hair.

Detoxification: Acts as a natural detoxifier, supporting liver and kidney health, and lowering uric acid.

Glad you’ve been in to see the doctor. Just give it time. God understands these things. Don’t let it become another point of stress for you. :praying:

It seems that the Walmart versions of the cold/flu meds are making a dent better than the prescriptions, lol. However, I would prefer to know if it was Covid, but tomorrow there is a major windstorm with potentially 2-5 inches of snow, and I didn't want to wait another day to see if it was Covid. It is in my 5th day.

I will, I just hope that by Tuesday or so, I can still find out if I had Covid. I wager that I did, because with all the intensity of the cold/flu symptoms I had, I still tested negative for the flu.

I forgot to add that the prescription nasal spray might be benefiting to me, though.

Well it’s weird this year. They keep talking about a new strain of flu. And with the extreme temperature highs and lows, some major sinus issues. I’m really surprised you were not tested for COVID.

Well, the urgent care is being an azz. They have this rule now (who knows if it's recent) that in order to get a Covid test, you have to have an order from a provider. :sigh:

I don't think it used to be this way. The last time I went to a drive-thru lab and I didn't need the order at all. That was not an urgent care facility, but even the operator on the hospital phone line said that she thinks you need an order for that too :sigh: However, I will check with the horse's mouth when the lab actually opens up.

There must be another walk-in around here that will allow this for me. The thing is, the urgent care I went to is already affiliated with the network I'm in, which means that I don't have to give them my records because my patient portal is already disbursed throughout the particular network. If I go to another one, I feel that the visit would take longer because I'm not in their system already. (Ok, this may not be the most important issue but it sure makes it convenient)

Nobody likes long waits in the doctor’s office, hospitals, or walk ins.

In spite of the fact that I didn't have to wait too long to get called back into a room, I literally waited an hour in the room for an actual provider. I ended up having to ask why no one came in yet (I did so, nicely) and they said they were very busy. And heck, this was one of the GOOD places for urgent care - in a good area, not even THAT many people in the waiting room when I came (but enough), but still. If I had come any later...

Are you saying that if you had gone any later you would have died? Oh. Do you have an underlying medical condition or something? Because that is the only way I think COVID can kill you. I've had it three different times and I'm alive and well today. :)

I’ve went to my regular practitioner and waited that long on occasion. It usually is because something unexpected happens and they get backed up.

I am, too. I would’ve requested it if we couldn’t get our hands on an in home test kit.
