  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

(John 13—Jesus washing feet)

Correct perspective matters. The Bible was used to justify american slavery, too. But, those wealthy "slave-holders" were wrong, according to God. Humans should never have been treated like property. And, sadly, many still are subjected to human trafficking anyway.

All perspectives aren't equal and all justifications won't be acceptable before God. This "Jesus washing the disciples feet" story is often used by the powerful to tell subordinates they should be servants "like Jesus." But, that isn't what this story is about. Jesus was the one with the power.

Jesus, in washing their feet, chose to serve those underneath Him when He didn't have to. And, then He told those He served to “go and do likewise” to others.

He modeled what He wanted those in His charge to do for those in their charge.

The real message of this servant-like action of Jesus is: "Lead by example"
