Correct perspective matters. The Bible was used to justify american slavery, too. But, those wealthy "slave-holders" were wrong, according to God. Humans should never have been treated like property. And, sadly, many still are subjected to human trafficking anyway.
All perspectives aren't equal and all justifications won't be acceptable before God. This "Jesus washing the disciples feet" story is often used by the powerful to tell subordinates they should be servants "like Jesus." But, that isn't what this story is about. Jesus was the one with the power.
Jesus, in washing their feet, chose to serve those underneath Him when He didn't have to. And, then He told those He served to “go and do likewise” to others.
He modeled what He wanted those in His charge to do for those in their charge.
The real message of this servant-like action of Jesus is: "Lead by example"
