They aren't even reporting the estimated cases for CV and the media has not noted this disparity. Instead they are publishing 3-5% death rates for confirmed cases only.

There is no evidence for your statement. Since we don't know what the estimates are for CV cases which have not been officially reported, we don't know how different they are. But based on the death rate for confirmed cases, which is twice as high for the flu, it would seem that the statement you have made is incorrect.

The seasonal flue is less contagious because many people have immunity, and less dangerous because people can get shots for it.

So no matter how "non-lethal" it is, it can affect far more people and therefore it has the potential to kill far more. As it has in China.
