  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you enjoy cooking?
No
Are you good at it?
Not really. Maybe I would be if I cooked more and tried more new recipes.

Since getting married, I am trying to learn some easy/simple recipes. Though it's not really necessary. Puffca enjoys cooking and dislikes cleaning. I dislike cooking and I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I enjoy cleaning, I don't mind it. Sure I was single for many years, but some years I was roommates with my sister (who loves to cook) and when I lived alone, I just didn't care about food (my idea of a good breakfast was cereal, though at least the kind with fiber).

So, even though I don't have to cook (unless hubby is away on business), I do kind of want to learn to cook more things. I can cook more than Kraft Mac 'n Cheese or frozen foods, but I'm no chef by any means. I'm also looking at stove top cooking, but mainly baking, which hubby doesn't really do for the most part.

I enjoy what I cook, and I cook a range of things. No specialities, although I enjoy my sweet potato curries I don't adhere to any particular recipe so can't really class it as a speciality. I'm so picky with how things are cooked I have to enjoy cooking.

The only reason I selected the second option is because although I enjoy cooking and find my food delicious, other people do not. I have very particular tastes, these tastes do not always go over well with people who are used to rather unimaginative* cooking :sorry:.

*and of course by that I mean they do not appreciate being guinea pigs for novel adaptations of various meals.

I love cooking and I love trying new things. What I don't like is that I have a small galley kitchen in my apartment and no dishwasher. I HATE washing up afterwards.

Favorite dishes to make are beef stroganoff, lamb korma and when I'm busy and want something quick and easy, a stir fry.

Favorite dish to bake (and eat :yum: ) - lemon meringue pie. I like the top of the meringue to be golden brown with a crunch, but still soft on the inside. YUM!!! I seriously could live on lemon meringue pie.

I enjoy cooking. I started cooking meals for my family when I was about 5 years old. I've always seen it as just a regular daily skill. I do love learning and trying new things. I love a challenge and often make my own recipes as they are rarely actually needed, unless you are baking and need exact measurements.

Do you enjoy cooking? - Sometimes. I work a lot, so I prepare meals for the week in advance on my days off in case I do not want to cook during the week. I also make things like wraps, burritos, and breakfast burritos for our lunches/breakfasts for the week.
Are you good at it? - I am OK. I am not like an expert or anything, but I am good at following directions or just adding ingredients until something tastes pretty good. I have a lot to learn and I do not like to learn with an audience! I have been experimenting more recently.
What do you consider a specialty of yours? - Yeah, I am not at the point where I would call anything a specialty, lol.

It depends on how much time I have as to whether I enjoy it or not. If I have a lot of time, I like it quite a bit but we're always rushed and I don't like it at all when I only have time to heat up some hamburger helper or something like that.

I'm pretty good at it.

My specialty is desserts I think. I do really well with baking cakes, cookies and pies.

I was a four star/five diamond chef for a living once upon a time. so yes I do own a chef's hat but I don't wear it for cooking around the house these days. And mostly I don't do gourmet these days as that sort of cooking is rather expensive on the budget.

But I do bring out my talents from time to time for various special occasions. Usually for birthdays or family get togethers...mostly it is just we cook rather well when it is simple stuff like potatoe soup or a roasted chicken. I have been teaching my son how to cook these days...and he is getting past the basic mixes and ready made stuff...time to show him some upper level cooking stuff now...My wife does most of it most of the time for the day to day cooking.

and sometimes my tastes go way beyond the pail for normalicy...currently I have a taste for a fresh fruit savarin cake....and I have been promised one for my birthday.

I'll help and it will be awesome. It isn't something you can actually purchase at a bakery. (at least I have never heard tell of any being sold here in Nashville) But I used to sell them during Easter as individual, single serve desserts at the country clubs I was the executive chef at. They were really popular.

One thing that I have noticed though...cooking creates memories...and sometimes when you do something really well those memories and the times surrounding the eating of that dish stay with people for a lifetime. Those memories can flood back into a person when they eat that particular dish prepared in the same fashion again.

And some of the financial elite in this country will pay almost any price to have those happy memories flood back into them again. And that is the price that pays chef's salaries. But can easily be had at your dinner table.

I chose that I cook "a little" lol. Microwaves cook food just like ovens do :) I even used a toaster oven for the first time this week, thanks to guidance and encouragement from Don (who is the chef of the house and can cook just about anything). I like to experiment with cooking here and there, just for fun, but I'm definitely not at home in a kitchen :D

I can follow recipes, and i do a lot of baking... the only things i don't really need recipes for are things like eggs, baking chicken breasts, spaghetti... more or less my staples haha... i like making casseroles because then i can eat for days without having to keep cooking... when i get really lazy or really busy though, i just order food ... i guess that's somewhere between "a little" and "slightly above average"? lol
