  1. Welcome to Christian Forums, a forum to discuss Christianity in a friendly surrounding.

Your voice is missing! You will need to register to be able to join in fellowship with Christians all over the world.

We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

Convince me of Continuationism.

(Sigh) Albion, I've called you on this misleading language numerous times. Your responses deliberately blur the distinction between "a temporary lapse of gifts" (which is still Continuationism) versus an irrevocable lapse (the doctrine of Cessationism).

And the whole position is based on the non-sequitur that a documented temporary lapse IMPLIES a permanent lapse. This "analysis of history" is self-contradictory, because any OT lapse,by that logic, would already have inaugurated Cessationism thereby precluding NT giftings.

Unbelievable. Literally outrageous. The pot is calling the kettle black. Let's be clear that the "basic facts" refers to your non-sequitur "analysis of history" in spite of explicit biblical data to the contrary (such as Paul's command to us at 1Cor 14:1).

Um...er..Does Scripture have any say in this? Or just skewed interpretations of history?

    Non-sequitur. See above.

Not quite so fast. While I agree that MY subjective experience doesn't count as evidence FOR YOU, it does count as evidence FOR ME. That's how Direct Revelation operates. To disparage this dynamic is to repudiate Paul's conversion on the Road to the Damascus - indeed it repudiates the Inward Witness and thus the gospel itself.

I'm not aware of a single documented genuine use of "sign gifts," so I consider that a very dubious statement.

What is your precise definition of "sign gifts"?

Yes you are. You replied to my documenting of my experiences of genuine tongues.

Your testimony about yourself does not constitute documented evidence.

I also note that you didn't even answer the questions I raised about your claims.

I documented above. If it helps you to visualise it, then feel free to print it out into a document.

Not that I saw. Who were your independent witnesses?

Documentation? Cessationism is an ideological confusion. Its proponents are the same people who claim to be members of the Sola Scriptura party. Yet:
    (1) They contradict Sola Scriptura by founding Cessationism on an analysis of history.
    (2) They contradict Sola Scriptura by insisting upon external documentation of miracles. That's like saying, "I won't believe in either Christ's resurrection or the impending eschatological one until I see documentation."

Cessationism's thinly veiled Deism is yet another example of the ideological confusion. Deism regards the world as a mere machine devoid of supernatural involvement. Nothing miraculous. Charismatic theology is precisely the repudiation of that philosophy. The truth is, even sanctification itself is a deviation from Deistic mechanism and, as such, already constitutes miraculous intervention in the human sphere.

At least be consistent. Since you're insisting that God has largely abandoned miraculous intervention, be equally insistent that He has largely abandoned sanctification as well.

Are you likely to know them then? For my incident, I have no idea who the person speaking the tongues was, I'd never met her before and I probably saw her a couple of times more over the week and after that, I have no idea. The guy interpreting the tongues Yinka Oyekan (you can find a few of his books on Amazon).

This has not been documented, as far as I am aware, except by me. I got the impression that for Yinka it was a fairly common occurrence, but it wasn't for me, becoming a Christian that very week.

The other incident was recorded by Dr. David Petts in one of his books (Body Builders, I think but could be The Holy Spirit, an Introduction - also available on Amazon).

Other incidents I doubt have been recorded - why would they be? We weren't out to prove something, we were just being guided by the Holy Spirit.
