Let's watch each month and make the 2026 election a referendum on the keeping of those promises.
1) Does inflation go down each month compared to a year ago?
2) Do food prices go down, actually go down as promised?
3) Does the price of eggs go down?
4) Do gas prices go down?

I have high hopes that President Trump knows that (under the capitalist model that we all work under) if there is a period of deflation, it could stall the entire economy.
Will people buy a car that they know will be $2000 cheaper “next year”.
It’s poison.

I don't know...is it really wise to bet on what Trump knows?

Yes you do that! Democrats held all the possibilities in the beginning of Bidens term. They held the House and Senate and did nothing with it when it comes to making things cheaper for Americans. Gas never came back down and everything was more expensive. Four years of destruction does not get better or fixed overnight. Trump not even a month in and people think things can be fixed that quick. Tariffs were what funded our government before 1913 when the government enacted income tax. It’s a proven method, it will disrupt commerce temporarily of course, but it’s the right path to ultimately enrich this country. We have been in a trade deficit with many countries for many years. You want cheap eggs, get rid of avian flu...

When would you be dissatisfied with Trump's performance if prices continue to increase?

The overall inflation target is to be up 2% every year from most central banks including the USA. If it goes from the current 2.8% rate to around 2% we will be very fortunate. Inflation is still going to rise but at least it is close to the 2% range and people don't complain at that low rate as hopefully they get a raise that can make up the difference. If prices across the board drop to below 0 for a year that is deflation. This sounds great but it usually means that no one is buying, either they are waiting for lower prices as Pommer notes, or they are too broke even at lower prices to buy.

In 2026 voters will remember that Democrat endorsed Bidenomics jacked those prices sky high.

Interesting Democrat campaign idea; "If they don't fix our mess soon enough, vote for us!".

Assuming you're willing to believe people who are more knowledgeable than you on economics, then you and I both know that prices are not going to go down and Trump has taken no measurable steps to bring those prices down.
In fact, his new messaging is
*Prices won't come down
*Things will be more expensive
*But don't worry "it will be worth the price"

Given I NEVER hear a Trump supporter say when they expect Trump to actually help NOR do they say what is the benchmark of success. I imagine when the avian flu issue resolves itself in a few months, Trump will be foisted praise (in the same way he was foisted blame) for his amazing leadership on this issue (though I'll wager he takes no action to resolve it).

So, Bidenomics raised pries sky-high and the people agreed and voted against the Democrats.

Bidenomics is gone. Trump ended those policies and in the next 1 1/2 years we will see the effects of Trump's policies.

Most people who claim to be knowledgeable about economics claiming the whole time the economy has been great, obviously only know what CNN lied to them about. And voting for the party that put us in the mess we're in now, obviously isn't sensible nor logical. Also might want to wait more than a couple of weeks to claim Trump didn't follow through.

Well we already know the effects of Democrat policies. And folks aren't waiting 1 1/2 years, they're complaining that nothing has happened yet in 1/2 month. Plus they will never ever concede that Trump did something good no matter what.

I'm talking about economists who have a clear picture about the economic picture in the US. THEY know how expensive things are AND They know that tariffs increase prices.

Fair enough. I mean, why hold him accountable for things he says.

If anyone did that he'd be a bad president.

Considering Biden destroyed 100 MILLION chickens, it will take a bit of time before the price of eggs goes down. He also banned oil and gas production so until they can get that straighten out you're probably not going to see gas prices lowered.

Democrats like to create messes and then whine the moment Republicans take over.

If everything was so good under Biden, then why are you worried about any of these things?

It was good, but it's getting worse already.

Ah, so Trump was 100% lying when he said that he wanted to lower food prices on Day One and gas prices lowered by 50% in a year.
======
Yes, 2% inflation is good and deflation is bad. Of course, Trump campaigned on a different position.

Yes, they helped us recover form global pandemic economic shutdown.
Yeah by finally easing up on the over extensive shutdowns and lockdowns they imposed. Like how canceling prohibition helped liquor sales.

Most voters experienced being told how great the economy is while paying much higher prices on virtually everything.
Fair enough. I mean, why hold him accountable for things he says.

If anyone did that he'd be a bad president.
Sure thing, all the other presidents fulfilled every single pledge and fixed every problem within the first two weeks.

And again, saying that since republicans didn't fix the problems created by the democrats immediately, that means you should vote democrat, makes zero sense. It's going to take a lot longer than that for the democratic party to recover.
