  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Constitution's "Natural Born" riddle solved! Read the shocking truth here!

It is not possible for humans to define what is natural. We would be arrogantly overstepping our bounds if we ever chose to do so. I think this is why the writers of the 14th Amendment chose not to use the word "natural". It is also why the Framers of the Constitution chose to defer to God's natural law.

false, misleading argument. the drafters of the constitution and the judiciary can do do define "natural", the fact that they don't define it as chrisitian, natural law is your problem.

as is constantly said, its the law, whether you like it or not, and if you don't like it, petition congress.

Human Beings have a natural, deep seated desire to please our fathers. We go through life trying to live up to our Daddy's expectations. Why this is so, God only knows, he made us this way. This is true for women, too. That's why we have the old expression "Daddy's little girl".
Human beings have a natural, deep seated desire to please our parents. I don't know many people who don't give a hoot what mom thinks about their actions.

Who all love our Moms. I love my Mom. I want her to be happy with me.

Daddy wears the pants. He teaches me how to fight and be a man. He has a leather strap in the woodshed and he'll tan my hide if I don't do the right thing.

What is "natural" is "by God".

It would probably make more sense to petition the Democratic National Committee and state election boards.

who gave you a monopoly on definitions?

the first amendment keeps your christian definition of natural law separate and away from the way the political process defines natural.

thank the gods for that.

You should read the First Amendment again. Closely.

The Brits had "Natural Born Subjects", not citizens.

The key point being "natural born". Again, there was no consensus among the founders about what "natural born" meant, which is why it is not defined in the Constitution and has been debated by the Supreme Court throughout US history.

I might also point out to you that the Bible actually uses "natural" far differently than the philosophers of the 17th and 18th Century did -- "natural" was not of God. As Paul stated, "Now the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God..." (1 Cor. 2:14)

That's nice and all, but how about all those people raised by single mothers? This expresses a complete disregard for anyone who didn't grow up in a perfect old-fashioned atomic family in the heart of America. In short, it's a bad idea.

Might we have his phone # and/or email address so we can discuss his mistakes?

Fighting makes one manly? You wish to please your father more because he'll hurt you if you don't? That does not sound like a healthy relationship. All children need discipline and (IMO) corporal punishment has its place, but they should not be bullied into compliance with threats of violence.

Sounds more like the formula for a bully -- and what is a bully if not a coward?

pretty much the antithesis of "manly."

It haunts many children of the "Spare the rod" school of thought.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me I still have to confront my parents about all this. My counselor reminded me.

No, I ain't joking. But that's for another forum.

Standing up for what is right is manly, at least in my book. But it is the what is right part that is important, not standing up with your fists.

I'm very glad I did not have the bully so many seem to have had as a father. Things would have ended badly for sure (by the time I was 16 I was bigger and stronger than my dad and had my mom's inherent pain tolerence).

Of course there are more examples, but I figured just bringing up the fact that the fathers of the first 17 presidents would have disqualified them would be enough to hammer the point home of how ignorant this all is.

Article Two of the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clause 5: Qualifications for office

“ No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States. ” See also: natural-born citizen and President of the United States
By the time of their inauguration, the President and Vice President must be:

  • natural born citizens
    • The provision of "Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution" is no longer significant, as it applied to people living in the United States at the time that the country was formed.
  • at least thirty-five years old
  • inhabitants of the United States for at least fourteen years.
Eligibility for holding the office of President and Vice-President were modified by subsequent amendments:

  • The Twelfth Amendment (1804) requires the Vice-President must meet all of the qualifications of being a President.
  • The Twenty-second Amendment (1951) prevents a President from being elected more than twice.
that's what the clause "at the time" was there for, to cover the people who's parents weren't citizens of a country that didn't exist yet.
it's the 6 other Presidents who had one or more foreign-born parent none of the birthers seem interested in. :sorry:
tulc(is curious why)

Of course we all know race has nothing to do with it. That might imply an ulterior motivation behind all this birther craze. ;)

I think a brother would be someone raised to be an American.
Do I even need to point out how not Scriptural this is?
