  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Congress will raise its own salary but

Here's what I would propose for the establishment of the salaries and benefits of the President, the Vice-President, the Cabinet, all members of Congress, and the top level of management at the various Federal agencies and bureaus:

The President, the Vice President, the Cabinet, all members of Congress, and the top level of management would be required to put their entire financial holdings in escrow (where it could not be touched) the entire time they were in office. They would not be allowed to accept donations of any kind, for any reason.

Salaries would be set at 110 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guideline for the poorest county in the country.

Housing will be established under the guidelines of Section VIII.

They would be required to enroll for Food Stamps. That would be their sole source of money for food.

Their health benefits would be Medicaid.

They would be given two two-way, paid Greyhound bus tickets so they could go home twice a year and visit with their constituents. Any trips past that, and ALL trips to foreign countries would be paid out of their own pockets. (Note to Senator Murkowski: sorry about that -- I know your gluteus maximus is going to get really sore from a weeks' journey on the bus.)

Bet you there'd be a radical re-aligning of priorities for social spending if that occurred. And actually -- if it really did occur, that would be fine by me.

Fantastic Post!
Minimium wage of $5.15 has not been raised in 8 years but yet the cost of living keeps going up.
I am grateful I don't have to live off of minimum wage but know many who do.

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.

Welcome to Bushist economics.

Let's have Jesusist economics. Where the haves help the have nots without having to have their money taken away by force or coersion.

But we know that'll never happen, don't we? Money is king. Money rules all.

In reality, do what you can, help who you can, while trying to stay afloat. It's all any of us can do, really.

I need to check....is it this year or next we can vote for congress?
I think it is good to vote for new congressmen and at least some others can give themselves a raise.
Then there is that small chance they might be different from the last bunch.
Then someone that gets voted out might have to get a real job.

Wow, thanks Uber. :) I appreciate the compliment.

Actually you do have a very good thoughts on this and very Christian also.
I too think your ideas would work.
Most people are to greedy to let this happen though.

Thank you.
And yeah, it is sad that people have a tendency to be very greedy. It's human nature to think of self first and to hell with everyone else. I've done it enough times. Nobody is immune to the base human tendencies.

But what good will it do really? They're safe in their ivory towers.

Like I said... just try your best to stay afloat and help people when you're able. Just have to last until we're all okay. Hopefully that day will come soon.

Minimum Wage goes up = Prices every where go up
Congress already makes to much money.

I dont dig on Michael Moore that much but the one senator or congressman in his movie F 9/11 was like "you dont think we actually read the bills we pass do you"

If I made that much money, I would read anything they wanted.
