  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Here's my situation... I would like to believe I was right, but you tell me.

I was at a party with a friend of mine, Raymond. We were drinking and sitting on the floor.

I kept noticing that the girls at the party was dressed a certain way. It made me feel weird, seeing as if I was in no way dressed in the matter that they were. They were dressed in the fashion that people call "Indie", I guess.

I turned to my friend and I commented, "All the girls in here look exactly the same. I don't see how males find it attractive if they all are mimicking the exact same style. Don't they have a style of their own?"

Now, at that moment, the expression on my friend's face changed completely. He looked at me and sighed, "That's not cool."

I just noticed that they were limiting themselves. As if they didn't want to be an individual. All of them had the exact same styles of clothes, same hairstyle, same makeup.

Was I wrong?

You were very right, which is why I beleive he got so offended.

People who dress artsy/emo/indie/punk/goth etc. tend to be extreme conformists who like to fool themselves into thinking they are non-conformists, so I think your comment hit too close to home.

That very much depends on how the style looks on them, copied or not. besides, the idea everybody has to have thier own style just adds more fuel to the indie/emo/punk/goth/etc. look fire.

Whether or not you intended it that way, it probably came across as nasty. C'mon, they weren't really all dressed the same, were they? Just enough different to you that they looked similar to each other in comparison. You mentioned that it 'made you feel weird' ... so do you think maybe your comment was in reaction to how you were feeling, to help get yourself feeling better about your own clothing/hair/whatever?

No, I didn't mean it as I was superior or anything like that.

My comment really has nothing to do with me.

They really were wearing everything the same! No one had a distinct unique look. I felt weird, because it was just like being surrounded by the exact same person.

I wasn't criticizing anything. It was just weird to me.
