  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

if any are of a Foursquare church have you heard of ones that splinter off that became like a cult ?? My area one is very legalistic even about how you spend time in scriptures or pray ..Like you cannot pray for your needs because that is 'selfish' which the bible never says that. WE have needs that are of the Lord even and were not asking for a car or boat or ring /but like asking God we can get closer to Jesus which cannot be wrong I see ,but they find faults in that because it some how has us in it [I do not think such a selflessness exists].Most of the time already Christians are striving and seeking to please God daily in prayer for His aid to carry it out or guidance. If it was to make living harder and stressful still that that makes one 'godly' ,that can even cause pride in that person if they had done that. I used to know that church once was reasonable in teachings and did not shun you if voiced needs .Does this post make any sense too[?]

I was part of a Victory Chapel that splintered off of the Foursquare denomination back in the 80's. They joined up with a group of other churches that had also done the same. They became very legalistic, and the entire focus was evangelism. It went from being a really nice church to a cult overnight. :(

Some of the other churches in this group were named "Praise Chapel". It seemed like there was another name or two used by others, but I can't remember them right now.

The Bible says by prayer and supplication make your requests known to God. God has ordained that everything He provides is to be requested of him in prayer. By coming boldly to the throne of grace and get help in our time of need, we are doing the will of God. Let God be the judge of whether you are selfish in this or not.

Why not? If you need a car, or boat or a ring, then why should God not provide it? James says that we have not because we ask not. I asked for extra money to help pay off my daughter's debts even though she made silly decisions to get her into that situation. What did God do, gave my wife extra paid work, which she was wanting, and this has enable us to reduce the debts amazingly.

but like asking God we can get closer to Jesus which cannot be wrong I see ,but they find faults in that because it some how has us in it [I do not think such a selflessness exists].

You are quite correct. God wants us to fellowship with Him. Talking to Him about how much closer we want to get to Jesus, and to allow the Holy Spirit to work holiness in us, and to be more effective in our ministry for Christ, are wonderful ways we can fellowship with God.

Most of the time already Christians are striving and seeking to please God daily in prayer for His aid to carry it out or guidance. If it was to make living harder and stressful still that that makes one 'godly' ,that can even cause pride in that person if they had done that. I used to know that church once was reasonable in teachings and did not shun you if voiced needs .Does this post make any sense too[?]

The fear of man is the greatest hindrance to faith. Church leaders who rule their members with a rod of iron are not trusting the Holy Spirit to do the work to maintain their faith. Also, power and control is a big problem in our churches. If a pastor or leader is exercising power and control over people, they are in disobedience by getting in between believers and Christ. Church is a fellowship where Christians are empowered, equipped, encouraged and comforted. It is not a place where human leaders become like little Hitlers and demand obedience to them.

Any pastor or leader who behaves like a Nazi in a church is nothing but a godless hypocrite, because he or she has no idea of what Christ's purposes for His church really is. I wonder if some of these "Hitlers" are really saved?

Paul called legalistic teachers and ministers "false apostles", because they did not acknowledge justification by faith. They are demanding that their members "keep the law of Moses" and be their version of "circumcised", and if members don't agree, they have to cope with the insinuation that they might not be real Christians. But it is those "Nazi" leaders who might not be the real Christians.

So, do you want to keep going to a church that is more like a synagogue of Satan, led by a group of people who are more "Nazi" than true Spiritual leaders?
