Jesus was talking with/to the Sadducees

The Sadducees were a religio-political party made up of wealthy, liberal, secular-minded people. They accepted only the five books of Moses, Genesis to Deuteronomy, as inspired, and did not believe in the resurrection of the dead.

Now they came to Jesus with a trick question that they felt sure would embarrass Him. No doubt it was a stock scenario that they had used in arguing with the Pharisees and others against the doctrine of the resurrection (yet, if you really look at their argument, it was kind of ridiculous: a woman who marries seven brothers, one right after the death of the other?). If Jesus disagreed with them, the Sadducees thought they could hold Him up to ridicule; but if He agreed, that would further offend the Pharisees.

In Jesus' own teachings to the people, He made the same point of this argument: Those who believe in Him, such as did Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, have already crossed over from death to life and will surely come forth from the grave at His call (the 1st resurrection) (John 5:24, 25). Even though our body turns to dust, we are bound up in the life of God, and we will live again. No wonder, then, for us death is only a sleep, a quiet rest for those whom, though in the grave, God considers as "living."

Our Apostle Paul says >

"Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham." (Galatians 3:7)

Also, in the second chapter of the epistle of James, James uses Abraham as an example of a person who did a work of genuine faith >

James 2:20-24

James says that Abraham's work of faith is that he "offered his son Isaac on the altar" (James 2:21).

You can read about this in Genesis chapter 22.

And Paul says we all need "faith working through love" (in Galatians 5:6); and every example James gives in chapter two is a work of love . . . of personal loving, I consider. In order to do God's works, with personal relating with people, while in personal communication with God, we need to be living in His love.

"Therefore submit to God." > in James 4:7 > only with God can we know how to love each person and be strong and sensitive enough to stay kind and personal and forgiving while relating with different people. Faith has us living in God's all-loving and unconditional love.

I asked this question because a certain popular pastor on YouTube said and quoted the bible that the dead has nothing to do with the living, according to him, all who have died on earth are spiritually dead and shouldn't have anything to do with the living. But my sister had a dream recently about showing my late mum something involving her house(it wasn't a bad dream), I was wondering if it was really my late mum or a demon as implied by the Pastor.

Taken as a whole Mark 12 is about inheritance beginning with who gets what if all that the owner of the land sends is killed. The answer is no one has been killed, those who have been killed by the hired hands still live. They may have killed the flesh, that which is of Ceasar, but they have not killed what is of the Spirit. Those to whom He was speaking knew that it was to them He was speaking. The inheritance could go thru any set of numbers (7 being the fullness of earth) and it still would not be their possession. Their error was not realizing the power of God according to the scriptures. Female and male are equal before God not possessions of any one another. Singleness of heart is the only thing that counts before God. And that displayed in accounting others as equal as self. When flesh bows to the Spirit as sovereign then you shall see how the Son is in subjection to the Father, how life on a lower plain can be made worthy of eternal life, not by anything that the world dying can do to alter the facts. The head cannot be directed by the tail. Greater judgement will be upon those who try to steal others rights to their own inheritances in applying false teachings when the resurrection does take place. All it truly effects is in lessening your own input into the treasuries of heaven. Those who give place to Christ now will be rewarded abundantly. In this too, there is nothing new under the Son.

When I dream of lost ones from this earth I take into account what spirit is represented by the dead husbands on the list of circumstances surrounding the dream and seek to find the letter that has been written into the spiritual content.

This verse is speaking in spiritual terms, as usual, as you find in the NT.
If you just read it like its a dime store novel, then when you read "the dead", you will end up as confused as a monkey in a Mall.

Here is the idea.

"Dead', = no Spiritual LIfe, as in NOT Born again.

"not the God of the Dead" = Not their Father....as these are spiritually = John 3:36.

Here is the context.. Revelation 20:12

"I saw the DEAD, great and small".....

This is the GRT White Throne Judgment of the Christ rejectors, who are spiritually "dead" because they are not born again.

Are they dead? Yes, and no.
We can’t see them.
They are with the Lord at rest.
Do they have things to do with us?
Now that’s a tough question.
When Christ came, do we need anyone else? Would they’re be any need?
We know Abraham comforted Lazarus as soon as he passed away though. (Bible Gateway passage: Luke 16:19-31 - New American Standard Bible)

Matt 10:28, says we shouldn't be afraid of people who kill the body but can't kill the soul. This means the flesh is dead but the spirit is alive. My late mum didn't appear to my sister physically, she met her spirit through a dream. If she appeared to her physically I would be much more skeptical because she doesn't have a body anymore but if it's in a dream then it holds more water to me. Because our spirit is in action when we dream and not our flesh, both spirits are living in spirit only one has a dead flesh. A message about my late mum's property was passed to her through her spirit, which is weird cause my sister was already trying to sort it out physically. God bless

The pastor is correct.

As you said he quoted the bible, most like Ecclesiastes 9:5 for one. It is occult religions that claim to be able to communicate with the dead The dead are dead. When Jesus said that God is the God of the living and not of the dead it is because the dead's fate has already been decided and they are awaiting their reward whether salvation or destruction. So there is nothing God has to do concerning them as they are dead. You cannot pray for the dead or do anything for the dead to change anything. You cannot communicate with the dead because the dead cannot communicate or else they wont be dead. Demon Spirits impersonate the dead and deceive people into believing into spiritism and that is not biblical.

Moses was seen in Matt 17. When God does it, of course, it's fine. That is not us trying to contact them which is prohibited.
