Confessing Movement

What do you think of the confessing movement?

There are other denominations involved, but I am thinking about the UMC.

The confessing movement is a kind of return to religious roots. For example, one might look to Wesley's writings and early methodist doctrines in contrast to the newest things going on now. Oden, who is quite involved, has also taken interest in ancient christian beliefs. I'm not sure if that fits or not. Other denoms have similar groups going on.

I'm not a fan of the confessing movement. It tries to make United Methodism into something it has never been. We aren't a "confessing" Church.

Confessing churches require the adoption of certain faith statements by its membership to be members of the Church.

While the UMC requires its clergy to teach UMC doctrine in accordance with our doctrinal standards, the laity do not have the same requirements, and never have.

I read the Wiki link. So it is more or less a conservative movement/change?

I think it sounds like UMC people are trying to become more evangelical.
