True, there is no voter's guide. I'm glad for that actually. But I would say that I cannot fathom how a person could be Orthodox and in good conscience vote for candidates who are expanding the "right" to commit infanticide? Could you vote for a group that funds Planned Parenthood, a baby extermination mill? Could you vote to extend the sanctity of marriage to people in sodomic relationships? Would the Lord be ok with that? Could you vote for people who want the U.S. military to fund transgender surgeries? Here in California the Left is pushing for sex education to start in kindergarten and LGBT values to be a part of it. Can you support massive influxes of illegal aliens and especially Middle Eastern groups loaded with Muslims that are not well-vetted and hate our country?
Can you vote for these things?
Ok, the Republicans can be greedy. Yes, they are anti-union. I hate that about them. Yes, they tend to protect big corporations far more than "Mom and Pop" shops. Yes, they can be warmongers and interfere in the politics of other countries (so can the Left). Yes the Republicans want to privatize a lot of things I'm not happy about like Social Security and Medicare.
So, my solution, if I hate the Right wing as much as the Left, is to vote third party.
Notice in my posts, I said the word OBEDIENCE but it was related to issues. I never said the Lord said, "Letteth all my flock vote Republican lest they find the fires of Gehenna." What I did say was that we are called to obey the church morally. If you, somehow, can find a way to skirt around the mass murder of innocents, the extensive brainwashing LGBT campaign, the pandering to Islam and hatred of Israel, the anti-semitism, the race-baiting, the atheist agenda, and all the other stuff the Left loves and vote Democrat, be my guest. I just cannot and see no way to vote for those folks with a clear conscience.
For me, when I cannot in good conscience vote for a Republican, I've voted Libertarian or Independent or not at all.
It is important that context be taken into account for my post. People (not Matteus and Rus!) jumped on it as somehow saying "obedience to Orthodoxy = voting Republican." That was not said.
For me, I'd rather vote NOT AT ALL than to vote for a person that funds infanticide mills. That's my take.
@~Matteus~ this is not about obedience. When I was received, there was nothing in the service book that told me who to vote for. Neither has a confessor ever given me an obedience regarding my voting habits or political inclinations. The notion that upon being received into the faith you hand over your conscience is simply incorrect.
