Saint, tattedsaint said:yea i used to be against benny hinn myself. now, to put it bluntly, i just don't care anymore. he is a brother in the Lord, and I sure hope he is being honest with his miracles.
The difficulty here is whether or not Benny Hinn IS a "brother in the Lord". Now, I know people have already quoted verses where the Bible tells us not to judge, however, the Bible does tell us also to discern, and to "test the spirits", and it seems to me that an awful lot of people have tested the Benny Hinn spirit and found it wanting! It's also worth noting that the very same passage that contains "do not judge' also contains "beware of false prophets" (Matthew 7). However, I'd just like to provide a few black-and-white scriptural reasons why Benny Hinn should be neither listened to, nor accepted by the Christian church.
1. Prophecy.
In 1989, Benny Hinn made a series of prophecies to his congregation at the Orlando Christian Center in Florida, including the following:
* "God will destroy the homosexual community of America... He will destroy it with fire... in the mid 90's - about '94 or 95, no later than that"
* "The Spirit of God tells me - an earthquake will hit the east coast of America and destroy much in the 90's"
* "The Spirit tells me - Fidel Castro will die in the 90's - the Holy Spirit just said to me, it'll be worth than any death you can imagine"
April 2nd, 2000
* Hinn Prophecied that Jesus would appear at his crusade, on stage, in Nairobi Kenya. Needless to say, He didn't. In fact, four people died at this crusade, crushed by the crowds. None of them were resurrected.
November 7, 2001
* Hinn prophecies that "this may very well be the last" TBN Tel-a-thon, as the Second Coming was about to occur. Needless to say, this didn't happen either.
Dec 29, 2003
* Hinn Prophecies that "Three and a half months from now something is going to happen in this world: headline news, you'll know it. I will not tell you what I see. You'll just know it, and something mighty will follow in the Spirit. God, the Holy Ghost, is saying to His church - Watch Israel. Watch my people Israel."
Nothing happened on April 15th. Oops.
Now, the Bible says a few things about false prophets.
1. The Spirit (not Benny Hinn's "Spirit", evidently, as this one isn't lying) "expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons (see the previous posts about Word of Faith and Christ's torment in hell), speaking lies in hypocrisy" - 1 Timothy 4:1-2
False prophets will come, the Bible tells us. For some reason, people have great difficulty letting go of Benny Hinn, despite the false prophecies, despite his character (which is NOT in accordance with the Holy Spirit!) and despite the fact that the Bible tells us very, very clearly what should be done with false teachers.
2. "There will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies... many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed." (2 Peter 2:1-2)
"It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the Holy commandment delivered to them." (2 Peter 2:21)
Do people not see this? Don't we realise that the church is Blasphemed because of Benny Hinn? He has made Christ's church a laughing stock! While Christians may excuse the false prophecies and false claims of healing, non-Christians see straight through this man and recognise him for what he is - a snake! The Bible says "by their fruits you will know them", yet how can we know them if we do not discern, do not test their works according to God's Word? We can't!
What does the Bible say we should do with false prophets?
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 has the answer.
"But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. And if you say in your heart 'How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?' - When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the THING DOES NOT HAPPEN OR COME TO PASS, THAT IS THE THING WHICH THE LORD HAS NOT SPOKEN; THE PROPHET HAS SPOKEN IT PRESUMPTUOUSLY; YOU SHALL NOT BE AFRAID OF HIM."
The answer is clear.
Obviously, we are no longer under Israel's judicial system - and I for one am not a Jew! However, the principle applies, more so today than ever. We should have nothing to do with Benny Hinn, nothing to do with this false prophet. He dares to presume to speak falsehood in the name of my God, and non-believers blaspheme because of him.
This is no man of God.
