ok I am one of those types of people who don't know very much about the computers.... I can type a paper surf the internet and other like tasks.... This thread is to basically tell who you are in the lineup of computers....
1.) you are a computer nerd if you know everything there is to possibly know about computers. This meaning that you would know how to completely reprogram a computer, rebuild a computer and practically build a computer from nothing.
It depends on what you mean by that. My experience is that people who tend to know how to "build" a computer don't know anything about programming them.
That's because, these so-called computer "nerds" are no more than mere computer mechanics. Not to come off as some elitist, but it really doesn't take a bright person to put a computer together.
For instance, I'm a computer programmer, but not once in my whole life have I ever put a computer together from scratch. I probably could if I wanted to, it doesn't take a whole lot of education to become A+ certified. But, I don't need to.
You don't know how insulted I tend to get when people compare my major to other majors like "Management Information Systems" or IT. I have to explain to these people how my major computer science, is nothing like theirs, in spite of it having the word "computer" in the name.
People in computer science and computer engineering look down on these kinds of people. Like we're the elites and they're the peasants. People who cut it in our fields often times end up going into these fields instead.
I try not to be an elitist and put these people down, because I did struggle in college, so I'm no genius by any means. But, I would appreciate it if people didn't just assume that my major was anything like IT or MIS.
2.) You are a computer geek if you know the in's and out's of most major programs on a computer but you haven't quite gotten to the level of being able to build a computer from scratch.
What you just described is someone who was able to graduate high school, if I'm not mistaken. They had a computer aptitude test which was a requirement to graduate high school in my state. I don't know if most states have it or not, but most people fit this description, but aren't what most people would call a "computer geek".
3.) You are so so in computers if you know how to do the basic typing of papers, surfing the internet and etc.
4.) You are completely dumbfounded with computers if you don't even know how to turn the computer on.
You're probably a troglodyte in that case. Even my mom knows how to turn on a computer.
I am number three.... I am so so at computers....
Which one are you in the list of computer technologies?
I can't evaluate where i fit in your scale, because you didn't give a proper scale. I'm a computer professional. So, I should fit in with #1, but I really don't fit that description.
