  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If things are suppose to evolve, how come computer etiquite seems to be so slow in evolving?

Fifteen or twenty years ago, when computer boards first started out there use to be what people called "flames". Back then, people who used computers were considered to be somewhat different in some way. But now computing and communication on computer boards has become main stream. But Miss Mannors has not come along yet and wrote a book on proper computer etiquite.

I wonder if we are long over due to establish some universal protocal on what is acceptable and what is not. What is acceptable and what is not acceptable has always been determined an a case by case bases by the people who had the ability to lock people out, without any real universal standard to go by. Traditionally, they make this decision based on how much the offending person agrees with them or not. For me things seem to be a bit more fair on this board, but I don't know, maybe the non christians would not agree with that.

I think the anonymity of online communication has people saying things they would not in a face-to-face conversation. After all, it's much easier to tell someone off if the chance of repercussions is virtually nil.

That's why I choose not to use an alias. I find I'm less likely to say something online that I wouldn't in real life.

THAT'S THE MOST IDIOTIC AND MORONIC THING I HAVE EVER HEARD AND I FEEL STUPIDER FOR JUST READING IT. I GUESS THAT IS WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM PIE STEALERS.

Actually, disputes from Computer boards do end up in the court system and there have been judgements up in the hundreds of thousand of dollars awarded, because the so called guilty party thought it was a joke and did not show up for court. But they are often overturned on appeal.

If I were to sue someone for defamation of charactor, they would have to come here to my local court system to defend themselves. But the appeal would be in their court system. Because their court system would be the one to actually collect the judgement.

I paid the small claims court here about $35 once and took Ebay to court. They were quick to call me on the phone and want to work an out of court settlement. I did, but then a year later they broke the agreement we had. I did not bother with it to much after that, it is just more trouble than it's worth.

Somewhere I read that some of the large companys like walmart are starting to fight their lawsuits in court. Even though it cost them more than a out of court settlement, they are of the theory that less people will take them to court if they know that they are going to have to go the distance with them.
