  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a nifty composter that I got through my city's recycling agency. It's recycled black plastic (keeps the heat in) with clips to form it into a cylinder about 3 feet high. It has lids for the top and bottom. I've only just started with it, but my plan is to turn the compost by periodically lifting the cylinder, thus dumping out the contents, and then shoveling it all back in, thus mixing it up.

Really, you can make a compost pile however you want--even just a pile in a secluded place in your yard.

Every fall I prowl the neighborhood and abscond with all the bags of leaves at the curb. It all gets dumped in a BIG pile under my deck against the foundation wall, and I spray it with the hose to wet it through, and I bury the tender tuberous stuff like canas under it.

In the spring I dig up the canas for replanting, and by the end of the next summer it's almost completely composted.

Yeah, the neighbors think I'm a bit strange but I don't mind.
