  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know exactly how much is a lot. I haven't been to outer space. have you? can you be kind to tell me? thanks.
There is water in space, but most of it is ice. Does that answer your question?

The water in space, that is away from planets, must be ice, or it can be a vapour in a gas cloud, usually very spread out, but it won't be a liquid.

To be liquid it must be under pressure so either under the surface of a planet or planetiod or it can be on the surface of a planet if it has an atmosphere to keep it under pressure and it has to be between the ice point and boiling point for the pressure it is under.

from what i understand comets do not last long, and at most 10,000 years.
Comets can last for billions of years. If they get too close to a star, they may well burn up, but this too can take an extremely long period of time.

they are a mixture of dust and ice that came out of nowhere.
They didn't come out of nowhere. The asteroids and comets in the Solar System are almost entirely composed out of the same primordial interstellar gas cloud that coalesced into the Sun and planets - not all of the material was absorbed by the early Sun or planets, and some remains to this day, floating about.

in genesis it talks about the firmament above and below the waters. could it be possible that there are still water up in the outer space right now? are there any evidence to support this notion?
Of the Firmament? No, none whatsoever.

again, comets are hard frozen ice. if there is no water in outer space... where did comets get it's ice substance from? water have to be there somewhere... and science might not find it yet. it's too far out there. we just don't know it yet.
As far as I know, water is actually quite common in outer space, in gas and dust clouds and stuff. The same clouds that make stars, planets and comets.

Hydrogen is by far the most common element in the universe, and oxygen is one of the most common of the rest. Given that the two love to react, that's a sure recipe for an awful lot of water.

Finally, if I remember correctly, there is evidence for water outside the earth (and comets) but within the solar system. The atmospheres of mercury and jupiter, i believe, contain quite a bit. i also believe there's evidence that a moon orbiting one of the gas giants contains liquid water - possibly more than there is on earth.
Enceladus?

BTW, Mercury's atmosphere is a puny little thing... are you sure you didn't mean another planet? (It does contain water, though. Long live my access to Wikipedia! ^_^)

The term used for 'firmament' is also used in Job to refer to a mirror made from cast bronze.

I'm somewhat puzzled by the color.

Copper and alloys can oxidise and darken, or react with air pollution forming copper sulfide which is green.

But the sky is blue when there are no clouds in the way, a deep blue, suggesting a lot of hydrated copper sulphate but I'm not sure how it got there and why it doesn't wash off. Maybe God put it there after The Flood and it hasn't rained from that high up since then.

Any ideas?

My question is, is there a specific definition of the the word 'heaven' in the hebrew?
What's wrong?

English too tough for you, that you have to go to the Hebrew to make your point?

Even my pastor does that, and I wish he'd stop it.*

* Actually, he doesn't use Hebrew to make his point, he uses it to solidify his point -- and I still wish he'd stop it.

That's because you have a problem.

Is that the same problem Jesus had, in your opinion? or His disciples?
Notice how you turned this into a question of why I'm at fault, rather than why you're at fault. My opinion clearly has no value, because you're unquestionably correct.

Regardless of what Jesus was like, do you think it's a problem you might have?

You jump in here out of the clear blue with this doosey of a remark:
That's because you have a problem.
... then you think I'm going to ...
My opinion clearly has no value, because you're unquestionably correct.
... value your opinion?
Regardless of what Jesus was like, do you think it's a problem you might have?
I'm not going to dignify this with a response.

Of course you don't value my opinion, because it's not your opinion. You don't value the opinion of your pastor, Christian theologians and Saints, because it's not your opinion.

You criticised a fellow Christian for wanting to improve his understanding of scripture, because your opinion is that the original recording by "God's Chosen People" is inferior to a translation of that recording, and that opinion can't be wrong.

"I will believe X until proven wrong, at which point I will carry on believing X".

Can you at least see why I might think you have a problem?

I know why you think I have a problem:

Maybe not you, yourself; but I can say from experience that if I agree with everyone, then I'm 'brainwashed' -- if I think for myself, I'm 'backwater'.

Either way, I'm sure you'll think I have a problem.

Do you think Lucaspa or Faith Guardian have a problem?

I doubt it -- they cater to science before Scripture.

I don't, and frankly, I feel blessed to have this 'problem'.

That's because thinking is a skill, how you reached a conclusion matters more than the conclusion itself.

Agreeing for the sake of agreement is worthless. Arguing that up is down for the sake of thinking for yourself is just nonsense.

It's an entirely different matter to agree with someone, or think for yourself, based on sound arguments.

The problem is not what you think, but how.

Okay, so when it comes to science, I copy off someone's paper.

So what?

What do you want me to do if someone asks me how deep the Mariana trench is? go down there myself?

Or is it okay with Internet ƨcientists if I just agree with them?
