CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Heliocentrism is the belief that the sun is the center of the solar system and that the planets revolve around it. Geocentrism is the old belief that everything revolves around the Earth.
This comes up a lot because there are a fair number of parallels between the old heliocentrism controversy and the modern evolution controversy.

There is a theory (which I thoroughly disagree with) that tries to link the supposed great age of the earth with creationism called the Gap Theory.
In short the proponents claim that there is a gap of billions of years in between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2.

There are several theories that try to consolidate old-earth with literal creationism. This is because the evidence for old-earth creation is so overwhelming that people are having a harder and harder time rejecting it (it's not like a board with pegs in it where you can just take out the "old-earth" peg, if you don't accept old-earth creation, you invalidate most of modern geology, palentology, nuclear physics, biology, and other branches of science). So people are starting to fit old-earth creation into a literal creation.
The same thing will happen with evolution before too long.
