Anybody hear of this group? They're an industrial-techno act out of Norway. There's a vocalist, dj/synth guy, and 2 drummers. Just saw them live and it was CRA-ZY

If you're unfamiliar with them, think Nine Inch Nails meets Prodigy or Chemical Brothers. 1 set of drums is a normal drum set, and the other set is sort of like "industrial congas". Absolutely AMAZING

They are alright, but they tend to annoy me after a few songs. Their live show is also pretty "meh".

I just had a discussion with another friend about the current state of EBM/Industrial and how it's severely lacking since the 90s.

Really? I thought the live performance was actually better than the albums. And I'm completely addicted to their music. Interesting that you feel this way...

So what sort of EBM/Industrial do you prefer?

At the moment, Celldweller, Jenarium, The Birthday Massacre, Blue Stahli, Collide, DeadStar Assembly, Gary Numan, Halo In Reverse, ISCINTILLA, NIN, Skingame, some occasional Zeromancer.

The only one I know from that list is NIN, which is quite obviously my favorite band and the most commercialized of any industrial act. I only know Gary Numan through Trent's cover of "Metal". I'll definitely have to give some of these a listen, I'm always ready to check out new cool music.

Combichrist is a highly commercialized act as well, and I would even go as far to say that they've reached NIN's status within the realm of EBM. Some other ones that I have on my iPod are Covenant, Artosis, KMFDM, Dracul, Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, kidneythieves, Funker Vogt, Frontline Assembly, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Orgy, etc.

I'm afraid I've only gotten mostly the mainstream dose of industrial, so I'm trying to dig deeper into the underground. The opening act for Combichrist was very interesting. A group called "Ivardensphere": their set was 3 sets of congas/drum sets with a dj/synth, and the 3rd conga drummer kept jumping back and forth between the synths and the drums. Absolutely incredible.

The 2nd act was a group called "Aesthetic Perfection". Their set was a vocalist, drummer, and dj/synth. They sort of remind me of another group I've heard online called "Suicide Commando".

The thing about most of the underground stuff is that... well, it all sucks. Most of the ones I listed are more the mainstream sound, just making their way to higher popularity. Good industrial is very hard to find, to be honest. I'm always on the hunt but 95% of it is crap and sounds the same; a drum machine and terribly distorted vocals.
