  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1:9 Because of this, since the day we heard about you, we have continued praying for you, asking God that you will know fully what he wants. We pray that you will also have great wisdom and understanding in spiritual things

Choose a church. (not your own) and pray as Paul did.

13 God has freed us from the power of darkness, and he brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son.

how can we not praise HIM

14 The Son paid for our sins, and in him we have forgiveness.

and i am eternally grateful!! Thank YOU JESUS!!

Verses 15-22 seem to me to say that JESUS is GOD!

18a He (JESUS) is the head of the body, which is the church. The Church is the Body of CHRIST

22 But now God has made you his friends again. He did this through Christ's death in the body so that he might bring you into God's presence as people who are holy, with no wrong, and with nothing of which God can judge you guilty. What a wonderful verse!! We can come into GOD's presence because we are holy. But, of course, we know that in ourselves we are not holy but because JESUS died for us HE makes us holy.

But we must: continue strong and sure in your faith(v.23)

Colossians 1:24 I am happy in my sufferings for you. There are things that Christ must still suffer through his body, the church. I am accepting, in my body, my part of these things that must be suffered.

i think this is a very important verse!! We all suffer. If we unite those sufferings with JESUS suffering and offer them to GOD for the salvation of souls, our suffering will be both benificial for the Kingdom and will be easier on us cause we will see that they have a purpose.

Here is this verse from the KJV:I Paul am made a minister; 24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

New International version: 24 Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church

New Revised Standard Version: 24 I am now rejoicing in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am completing what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church

I think this is true...we all suffer...a lot of my suffering came from sins of others done to me...sins of rebellion, and ignorance done to myself...theses sufferings were not for the gospel's sake...but the sufferings that are common to man...

I looked at some commentaris on this veres and they are making clear that we cannot suffer so as to bring salvation to this world the way Jesus did on the cros...only He was a spotless Lamb...slain from the foundation of these world...

but we do suffer afflictions like He did when we live for Him a righteous life..sharing the gospel as best we can, according to the grace God gives us...we have to be prepared to suffer for sharing this gospel...Paul to Timothy: Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Tim. 2:3

25 I became a servant of the church because God gave me a special work to do that helps you, and that work is to tell fully the message of God. Notice how important the church is to Bishop Paul.

27 Christ , who is in you. He is our only hope for glory.

28 So we continue to preach Christ to each person, using all wisdom to warn and to teach everyone, in order to bring each one into God's presence as a mature person in Christ. 29 To do this, I work and struggle, using Christ's great strength that works so powerfully in me.

Paul works both for conversion and growth. And he recognizes that he can do nothing without CHRIST!!

Infact , I took a lot of Bible study on Colossinas in my native tongue.

Col
2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit,
joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith
in Christ.
2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in
him:
2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have
been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Colossians 2:7 ... and always be thankful.
So true. And the key to constant thankfulness comes from receiving Christ, walking in Him who is our very root and source of growth, being firm in the faith: then we simply abound with thanksgiving!

Colossians 2:6-7 (KJV) 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

PRAISE HIM! THANK HIM! HE IS MARVELOUS AND ALTOGETHER LOVELY!

Shalom,

I wanted to comment on Colossians chapter 2.

From Young's Literal Translation:

"16 Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,
17 which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body [is] of the Christ"

Now, since Paul taught the Corinthians to "keep the feast" of Passover (1 Cor 5:8), he obviously would not do an about-face and tell the Colossians to not keep feast days.

Paul taught the Torah, or Law, is not nullified because of one's faith in Christ. (Romans 3:31) He taught that the Law should be upheld.

So Paul would have been urging the gentile believers to learn the Torah, and keep God's feast days, including Sabbaths.

So then, who would be judging the Colossians?

Unbelieving pagans.

Imagine the newly baptized Colossian people, learning about their Jewish Messiah, fellowshipping in the synagogues and house churches. Their former unsaved pagan buddies would be ridiculing them. "Why are you acting Jewish?" They might have said. Or, "Why are you keeping Jewish feast days and sabbaths? Why are you so close minded, following just one God?"

They would have been persecuting the newly saved Colossian people for their obedience. I believe this is the true context of the passage.

Now, some might say, "But what about Paul saying that the Law was nailed to the cross?"

Paul actually never says that at all. He says that various ordinances that were against us is what was actually nailed to the cross. Now, when a criminal was crucified, the Romans would post his offences on the stake which the criminal was being crucified on. Paul is saying that all of our offences against the Law were nailed to the cross with Christ, so that we do not have to bear them anymore. Christ took your place on the cross.

But the Law itself is not abolished. Read Matthew 5:17-20. Ask yourself after reading it, "Has heaven and earth passed away?"

Notice in Colossians 2:17 that Paul says the sabbath and holy days are shadows of things which are to come. When Christ returns, the whole world will keep the sabbath and his Law. A shadow is an indication that something is coming. The feast days, especially the feast of trumpets, are a shadow of the returning Christ!

Celebrate by keeping God's holydays and sabbaths NOW!
