Colossians 2

I'm pulling this up here from D&D so we can discuss it.

Look at this verse......Luke 24:44 And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.

He was the unblemished Lamb, the firstfruits, and the promised Messiah that would die for the sins of the world and then rise again on the third day. He fulfilled all things concerning HIM. All things that pointed to Him were most definitely fulfilled. He became our Passover...etc.

In Colossians 2 the only thing mentioned being nailed to the cross with Him is the handwriting of ordinances….everything pointing to Christ was nailed to the cross with Him, fulfilled.

How can anyone say the Sabbath pointed to Him (Colossians certainly doesn’t say it)? He kept the Sabbath commandment Himself and fought the Pharisees quite vehemently about their unbiblical restrictions on God’s holy day. Why would He do that if that one commandment was going to die with Him a short time later?

If anyone thinks Colossians 2:17 says the SABBATH was nailed to the cross (which it does not say), then they will have to say that food and drink were nailed to it too.

There is absolutely no distinction from the “meat and drink” in that verse from the other meat (food) and drink mentioned in other parts of scripture. Food was not nailed to the cross.

“Which are a shadow of things to come………….” Christ had already died on the cross when Paul wrote Colossians! Paul tells us that we shouldn't let any MAN judge us for the Sabbath day.

If you have an online bible, look up that verse (Col 2:17). Notice that “are” is present tense!! Christ had already been nailed to the cross, yet those things were still around after the cross and Paul said they are now a shadow of “things to COME.”

The things to come weren’t Christ’s first coming and being nailed to the cross. He had already been here and done that!

I've heard a few people say that the meat (brosis) and drink (posis) mentioned in Colossians 2:16 is referring to the meat and drink offerings at the feasts.

I just clicked on the words, and looked up the other verses those words are used in, and that's just simply not true.

In fact, in John 6:55 the same exact words are used to describe the symbolism of communion (i.e. Christ's flesh and blood!!)

Here's some more verses that use the exact same words:

Luke 9:13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat (brosis) for all this people.

2Cr 9:10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food (brosis), and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;

Look at this one...Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat (brosis) and drink (posis); but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

So indeed....meat and drink are a shadow of things to COME!

Literally....for those that say that Colossians 2:16 says the Sabbath was nailed to the cross must then say that FOOD was nailed to the cross as well.

And by "shadow" I know it doesn't mean we shouldn't keep it, because Paul says we shouldn't let any MAN judge us for it, but the body of Christ (the church) can!

How is eating food and drinking a shadow in the sense of something we don't have to do anymore?

Obviously we have to eat and drink.

And it is obvious, at least to me, that Paul said we should keep the sabbath as well until the second coming.....and according to Isaiah, even after that!

Paul grouped the Sabbath in with something just as important as FOOD...now that is important!

We'll eat in heaven....we'll tend to vineyards!

Shadow does not mean that it will end once our Savior returns.

Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

If you go to www.blueletterbible.org, you can click on that "C" to the left of a verse and get into the Concordance and Greek/Hebrew

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Mary, Christ's mother was born of a Jewish bloodline.

However, she accepted Christ as the promised Messiah and followed Him. She became a CHRISTIAN.

Think of the definition of what you consider a Christian to be....and that fits Mary, Christ's mother.

As a Christian, Mary kept the Sabbath commandment after Christ died on the cross. (Luke 23:56)

(I'm just thinking thinking out loud here guys...ignore the girl behind the curtain!)
