  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My computer froze on me yesterday while online and I ctrl+alt+del'ed out of it. Ever since then my life has been really rough lol. I have been tring to reset some things, and I CANNOT get my colors and resolution back where it was. It's currently at 16 colors (oooo, perty!) and I have to highlight text in order to read it in some places. I've gone through the troubleshooting and all that. Everytime I click the setting I want (256 colors) the computer restarts and comes back up at 16 colors. Obviously I need help. Can someone educate this poor woman?

If you're using Windows 98 give this a shot:

1) Turn on your PC. As soon as you turn on the power hold CONTROL down.
2) A safe mode screen will come up....you can let go of Control now.
3) move the cursor to safe mode without networking or anything else so it might say:

Safe mode - without networking and XXXX (may not mind you)

4) Leave windows to boot up
5) btw...it will be ugly as a baboons bottom
6) Go into Control panel from start (possibly then Settings to Contol Panel)
7) Try adjusting it now, you may not get all the options but don't worry. (I've forgot how Win98 Works)
8) If you can adjust it make sure you select Apply now rather than "Reboot with settings". If not go to step 9, otherwise completely reboot but if you get the safe-mode selection screen hit "normal mode" and give that a shot. (and ignore all of the steps below this)
9) Click on something called "System" inside the control panel.
10) Go through all the tabs until you find something called a "Device manager" button. Click it.
11) Double click on the "display adapters" then you should find your grahics card in there. Double Click that.
12) In the ickel text box it will say "This device is working properly" or not as the case may be.

Reply with what it says. TY

Thanks for your suggestions. I can't work on these things right now but I'll give them a shot as soon as I get some time. There are a number of things all messed up, I've noticed. I can't print these suggestions either:sigh: Anyone want a computer?
