I'm just surprised that he didn't eat her alive or something
I find that sudden transformation rather unconvincing. One of the things which tends to break the suspension of disbelieve which is required in order to maintain the audience's enjoyment of a film. Just recently I watched Starship Troopers.

The lady has her shoulder transfixed by this insects spear like leg. A while later she is nonchalantly conversing and smiling as if nothing had happened. That type of thing is extremely distracting, shatters the illusion of reality and seems like an insult to audience intelligence.

yup, I agree, but then again, its hollywood we're talking about, scriptwriters are not exactly compelled to stick with real life scenarios...

Of course we are expected to cut them some slack. That's what suspension of disbelief is about-being cooperative with those who are telling is a story via images or the written word in order to enhance our enjoyment. It is an unspoken agreement between reader and writer and audience and the producers. In short, we will cooperate as long as you don't blatantly and UNECESSARILY insult our intelligence.

Was having a woman's shoulder transfixed and then having her smiling and chatting the next moment as if it was just a mosquito bite necessary? Was it avoidable? It should have been deemed both and any director worth his salt would have immediately found a way to avoid it.

It's similar to my making a sci fi film about an expedition to Titan and portraying the
astronauts as accidentally exposing a bare hand for a minute to that extremely low temperature. Then having the astronaut say "Öuch!"or "Whoops!" and show no further symptoms.

So yes, we cut them some slack-but there is a limit.

Thats true, but what bugs me even more is plot holes in movies

Say! Thanx for those links! Being a writer I like to keep tabs on such things.
Would appreciate an example of a plot hole just to make sure we are on the same page.

Got it!

What it refers to is story contradictions which indicate sloppy careless thinking.

They asked that actor why he doesn't fix that tooth and he said that it is his trademark and fixing it would ruin his career.

He has a point. He's memorable and unique because of it.

Smart man.

Here is a scene in the film Fargo where he is being spoken about and described.

Yep, he's memorable. :D

This movie looks good...seems real authentic with the way of speaking, and the unknown faces.....

did you see the entire movie?

I see it over and over whenever possible maybe a total of five times. Some movies are like that because of the good acting, witty dialogue and memorable scenes.

Actually, I have never heard anyone speak that way in the USA. It is a regional accent just like the NY an NJ accents are.
Fargo accent and dialect notes

The female actress who plays the pregnant police officer, Frances McDormand, also starred in the film Darkman and the actor who is the other criminal in the movie, Peter Stormare, starred in Lovely Bones and Jurassic Park III. I highly recommend seeing both Lovely Bones and Fargo.

Thanks. I just ordered a copy of Fargo. It was the female (detective/sheriff) and the actor you mentioned who refuses to get his tooth fixed. :D

You actually bought the film? Good choice.

BTW
He's right about that tooth! It accentuates his suffering miserable look that sets him apart. He also starred in the film Armageddon alongside Bruce Wilis. Here are other memorable films I recommend:

The Green Mile

Forbidden Planet

The Shrinking Man

Ben Her as well as The Ten Commandments- starring Charlton Heston

Samson and Delilah-starring Victor Mature

West Side Story Starring Nataly Wood

The Sound of Music

La Strada starring Anthony Quin

Lovely Bones

and last but certainly not least:

The Out of Towners - starring Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis

Yes, the movie Fargo looks like a "keeper"....it's so authentic and unique....from what i've seen there's some phenomenal acting in it.

Thanks for the list....i'll check them out, starting with Lovely Bones.

Before we order it's good to know what the film is about. Sometimes previews show so much that they remove the drama by eliminating the suspense of not knowing what happens next.

I once went to see this film with some friends as a kid and there was this pest named Porfidio who had already seen the film but went with us. I wondered why he wanted to see it again and only realized the reason when he started with his:

"Don't worry! This is what is really going to happen!"

At first I thought it was just for that scene. But the kid was like a scene predator. Nothing escaped his notice. I got up and distanced myself from his vicinity to be able to enjoy at least the remaining parts he had not already ruined.

But I could still here him blabbering enthusiastically from that distance! It was as if he imagined that he was doing everyone in the place a favor and felt important.

I wondered why everyone else in the theater didn't complain or go to the manager to get this moron either removed or warned. But amazingly no one did and watching the film was a complete waste of money and time since the little imp revealed every slight dramatic nuance by pompously announcing it beforehand with the introductory "Don't worry....! "

The weird infuriatingly frustrating thing about it was that the other kids would encourage this brat by asking him!

"What happens next Porfidio! What happens next? Does he kill her? Is he going to win? Is he telling the truth? Who really is to blame?" To which he would respond with his patented "Don't worry!" PEST!

The guy that plays the killer was in the movie "Pelican Brief" (a phenomenal movie).
