The word's 'Cold Reading' on any audition forum are usually a nuisace if the script to the particular play is new to you. How are you supposed to prepare for a reading that you're not allowed to rehearse before the auditions?

I'm making this so that people can post their solutions to this obsticle. Heh...maybe you'll NOT end up like I was in high school.

There is no sure way to prepare for Cold Readings. Just go in to the audition with the confidence to say "I can do this!" Confidence will come with experience, just act your heart out, when you get the lines, skim through them quickly and then just go for it. The Directors want to see Talent, Passion, an Interest, and things that will make them want to have you in their show.

I think thats all i wanted to say.. if theres anything else ill add it in! :D ;)

I like to watch the movie of a play (there are usually at least really cheap ones somewhere) and translate it into a theatre style.

Here with our local community theater, all of the auditions are cold readings....unless you're one of the lucky ones, like me, who are part of the script reading committee and either know of the show, or can snatch a copy a month ahead of auditions. LOL

Usually what the directors are looking for is general stage presence, vocal quality, enthusiasm, etc...not that the person nails the part. Of course, this also has it's disadvantages, but that's a whole other story....
