I like coffee any time of day, but not the unhappy dishwater my husband likes to make in the morning. Although these days even that is appealing to me.
There was a time in my life when I made coffee in the morning, yes me, and my husband had heart palpitations the rest of the day, or so he said, but it was good.
My favourite coffee was made over a campfire and it took guts just to take the first sip in the morning. Over the years my tastes changed. I like Timmy's coffee through the drivethrough, along with a crueller. I also didn't mind the coffee at the corner store, along with a cinnamon bun.
Did I mention black. I went on a diet, after I had my first child back in the 70s, and could never go back to cream and sugar.
Due to allergies and Timmy's being bought out by Wendy's, I had to give up the drive through. I visited a local Timmy's for a lemonade recently, but sadly, they use too much sugar. I guess if I am ever suffering a sugar low, that would be the place to go.
The odd time I found myself with friends, visiting a Starbucks. Again, due to allergies, the only safe coffee there is an Americano.
Then tow years ago I discovered two drinks in a small town in the Kootenays. On a hot spring day, the best drink going is a Dirty Snowman. This is an esspresso, mixed in a blender with milk, white chocolate flavour, ice, and esspresso beans. It is like an coffee smoothy, only not as sickeningly sweet.
The other drink is a Canadiano. This is an esspresso shot in brewed coffee instead of water. I had the power that day.
All of this is nostalgic because now I am down to one cup of coffee a day, with the occasional variance from my husband's special blend. I'd make the coffee in the morning, but that would mean getting up at 4 am to wake up before him. I don't do mornings well.
