  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As I sit here sipping my coffee this morning I keep thinking about my trip to the shore last night.

The remnants of Hurricane Isabel were passing through at the time . . .

The windswept rains and the ocean churning in all it’s fury as lightning flashed across the skies . . .

I thought of how amazed I was by the awesome display of God’s power.

I then recalled how the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, in Job 38

34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?

I thought of how humbling it was to stand there and witness the storm, the winds and the sea obeying the Lord’s command.

And then I thought of the storm at sea mentioned in Mark 4:36-41.

36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

How humbling it must have been for them to have witnessed Jesus commanding the storm to cease.

How humbling it must have been to see the power that Jesus had to save them . . .

How humbling it is for us to think of His power to save us!

Just some more thoughts over coffee!
