I consider myself a closet Calvinist. I don't speak what I believe, but it does not come up often. I am subtle too. I agree with my college minister that "there is no such thing as luck and no such thing as accidents" and "nobody comes to Christ without the Holy Spirit". He might be Calvnists. These days, I usually don't argue or comment on anything in bible study these days.'

I don't find it fruitful to argue, nor always biblical.

However, I am much encouraged by the great Christian Calvinist that have gone before me--Matthew Henry, Spurgeon, and Bunyun. I intend to write devotal/apolegitic/life application books in the areas of Christianity and Christian Psychology. And I won't hide what I believe there, but I probably won't call it Calvinism either Also, I will leave out the ultimate conclusions that come with totaly depravity---God choose who he will save, and who he won't (maybe )

Personally, I don't hide what I believe but I don't always get into it with ppl either. I have a friend who is a Muslim. Well, actually, he is nothing but his family is Muslim. It would do me no good whatsoever to discuss the particulars of the Reformed faith with him.

I do understand why a non-believer or a baby Christian would be so offended by true doctrine. After all, until one has a good grasp on the sovereignty of God, election probably seems very harsh.

I bet if these men and the other Reformers were alive today and posting on this board they would be banned for flaming.

These guys didn't pull any punches in their correspondences with their opponents.

PS: I'm glad you will be writing books. We need more people writing books who believe the Doctrines of Grace.

It's quite sad, but I believe there are a lot more people out there who believe the Doctrines of Grace than we think. But they are not up front with it not because of persecution by unbelievers, but because of the flak they'll get from fellow believers.

On another board, a political one that has a forum for religious discussion, I finally had my epiphany and came out declaring I was a Calvinist. I was floored by the reaction of people that I had considered pretty good friends. At least two stopped talking with me and one was pretty careful for awhile but we remain good friends. And these are believers I'm talking about. You'd think I had started dining on sheep's blood or something.

Unfortunately to many other Christians the Calvinist is worse than the most repugnant of unbelievers.

Election does seem pretty harsh at first. I don't think I could have dealt with the issue before I started really growing in my faith. I have just "come out of the closet" myself, realizing that my beliefs now are not what they once were. It took me reading the bible on my own, with prayer beforehand, to see the "rest of the story"!! Verses started jumping out at me that I never even noticed before. It's so strange how the Holy Spirit works.....

Do you really think that Election is something that 'needs' to be taught right away? I've been thinking about this alot recently(well, since about the time I realized I was a Calvinists! LOL) Does anyone have any thoughts on this??
