What do you mean by 'closed minded'? For some, it's a matter of doctrine. For others, it may be that their faith does not allow them to deal with things in a constuctive way. I sense there's a little bit more to your question than there is on the surface. Can you maybe provide an example, or perhaps refine it a bit, so it's not so broad?

There are so many because thats how they are brought up. that its "spiritual" to keep the law. while we shouldnt judge them its good to know why. They do what they think is right and if it looks wierd then its bad. Basicaly they look on the outside and not on the inside. when Samuel was annointing david God said "Man looks at the face, but I look at the heart" face is translated from the greek. They are wrong in doing that but dont argue with them

For some people it is necessary to be "close minded" because it makes them feel safe. Something which is different is a threat to them. It's a mark that maybe there's more than they know or are willing to see... It's much more easier to think "close minded" and think that it's the only right way of living.

Shyguy, I would tend to agree with you. Christians (as a whole) have tried to move to a state of being their own society. We have our own music, our own schools, our own movies, our own doctors, our own workplaces, our own everything... We have secluded ourselves from the rest of the "evil" world. For what? I'm not really sure.

We have created a christian sub-culture and based it off of the "in not of" concept. So, anything that causes us to be a part of the world, or relates us to the world such as music, tattoos, choice of entertainment, etc, can be construed as "evil" to many of the Christians that want to live in the sub-culture.

I, on the other hand, would rather live in the world, not for the sin of the world, but because if I close myself off how is God going to get glory?

That would be nice but if we would want to spred the word of God and Christ we would have to go into different cultures and stuf and that means we have to have an open mind
By open mind, do you mean accepting? Depends. There is an ever-increasing acceptance of sin in our society, so if you're referring to having an open mind to that, I strongly disagree. However, being understanding of other cultures, being willing to experience such to build relationships that allow us to share the good news of Christ.... that is fine and good (so long as we do not indulge in sin), and wholly necessary if we wish to actually minister to a lost world.

The impression I've received from your posts is that you're frustrated with Christians that refuse to immerse themselves in modern, sinful culture... Christians that recognize sin for what it is, and refuse to be a part. While it is wrong to shut those in sin out of our lives completely, we are not to consider sin acceptable in an effort to bring those to Christ. Rather, we are to love the sinner, but stand firm for the truth of God.

I'm thinking what he's saying is that they just if its not completely conformed to the "normal Christian" idea then they are going to be offended. Examples would be, ppl with tattoos, pericings, Goths, and basicaly anyone who doesnt look like them, talk like them, act like them, and more importantly believe like them. Sin is wrong, but if you have God then its really not that important, we just have to try not to do them and rely on God. An example would be drinking... for some ppl it doesnt bother them for ppl to drink around them or for them to drink themselves, but others just freak out about it. "for him who is pure, everything is pure." Dont judge.

In my perspective, I think it's wrong to judge people. Jesus delt with many people when he was on the earth. Not just the people who were living a good life. Since no one is really living a perfect life. Jesus didn't heal people who were perfect. If they were perfect they wouldn't need healing. He ministered to everyone. My church can be very judging. This has caused me not really to be involved in that church anymore. We don't have a right to judge people. I don't think people should be judging you bassed on what you look like. That's wrong. Some of the nicest people I know, have something on the outside that may not be extremely appealing to me. Like a tatoo, tongue ring, or some weird hair colour. That's just my thoughts.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ". 1john 2:15

"love one another even as I (Jesus) have loved you" (the new commandment)

that narrows a lot of things down. closed minded might mean that someone doesn't "love" the harry potter series, or that new show on Fox, or walnut ice cream, or porn, all of which things seem to the natural world to be OK to love. as christians, we aren't supposed to love the world, nor the things in the world.

does that make christians "closed-minded", to most people --- yes. they're not "open" to engaging in gay sex or trying tarot cards or robbing banks or following the latest fashions and tv shows. they don't "love the world", and that makes them "different" and "closed-minded".

That doesn't mean christians don't love the PEOPLE in the world, that is a different story altogether, covered by the new commandment.

I agree. we cannot judge based solely on appearances, but appearances can be a sign to watch out for. Nice does not equal saved.
