"closeing at op request"

means that the person that started the thread, can have it closed. The op can also ask for post to be deleted that are off-topic.

Say for example you start a thread on 55 Chevy's and their mechanics. Someone comes in and post about how much they love their grandma's apple pie and mentions nothing about cars or mechanics, then the person that started the thread can report it, and ask that it be deleted because it is not on topic of what the thread was started to be about.

I hope that you don't delete my posts in the other thread. I feel like I answered certain questions there, and so would like to refer people back to that, rather then answer the questions again.

You can create other threads if you think of something that you want to talk about that is off-topic of the thread you are in and leave a link to the new thread you started from the thread that gave you the idea for the new one.

AAAAAAAARRRRGGHHH!!! That took me about 20 minutes to type!!!

I was lucky. When I opened the thread I saw the Mod's post. Phew!

It's enough to make you want to slam your head through the monitor. And I am not the fastest typer in the world either!

Another time it can be used is if the thread is getting heated. For example; if tempers are flareing or are begining to flare from one or more members, then the op can request that it be closed. Under this circumstance, staff can also intervene, if absolutely necessary, and close the thread for a day or so to let tempers cool.

If you have it saved, you could take what you typed up, and create a new thread with that. I would suggest that you summarize what you had typed up and use that for a new op title however.
