If Im correct, gluons are photon-like, intranuclear exchange particles, by which quarks (the internal constituents of hadrons) are held together, according to the theory of quantum chromodynamics, of which my knowledge is still primal. yes - about our old mate, the gluon - basically, I consider the photonic exchange process to be a sort of quantum 'balancing of the books' type act, that where an exchange takes place, there has to be a reciprocal process in order that the internal equilibrium of symmetry in the hadron structure be conserved (nature abhors a vacuum principle).

gluons bind together quarks. quarks cannot exist as +or- fractions but as integers ,composite particles called hadrons

Oh, I see; well ok just gimme a bit of time and I'll try and - what- rephrase - no -paraphrase it some more.  Just that I have a somewhat different way of thinking and processing my conceptions and information than the conventional, linear/sequential style (not making excuses - its the way my mind is)  You see, I guess its a bit like the difference between viewing something from ground level and viewing it from high up, so to speak, because from there, one can see all at once - all very well but ugh, trying to condense and simplify such ' panorama ' into a few brief simplified sentences  - but we'll get there
