I made sure that our ped used a gel pain reliever First, before he actually performed the procedure. After the procedure, I didn't notice that my boys had excessive pain... Sure, they cried, but a quick nursing calmed them down right away. They didn't seem to have any lingering effects either, except for some redness and tenderness, both of which went away within 2 or 3 days. It's amazing how quickly little ones heal.

HTH~

You know, trevor cried more from being strapped down than from pain. he has always hated being restrained from birth, even swaddled.
We didnt have gauze to use or anything. For us all we did was put neosporine on the front of his diaper each change for a few weeks. He didnt cry or fuss or anything after it was done.

They numbed up the area for my son so it was no big deal. I watched a number of little boys be circumcised while my son was in the NICU and I agree that most of the upset was a result of being restrained. I've been reading more since our last discussion on circumcision and does seem to be something to the Biblical tradition of performing the procedure on the eighth day. I wonder if non-Jewish parents ever request this?

To answer your question, Yes, there are a larger and larger number of Christian and Messianics who request an 8th day circumcision. :)

Medically speaking, Vit.K (the vitamin that helps the blood clot well) is at the Highest level on the 8th day! Isn't G-d wonderful?!

As for God's medical reasons, why would God create us with a body part that is doomed to cause problems? He doesn't. Foreskin is no more problematic than tonsils, adnoids, appendix, we don't have those removed at birth because God screwed up by giving them to us in the first place.

I stole this from the thread linked above. I don't know stastistics, nor do I need them. But, I do agree with the tone of the post. Is the risk so high that the benefits are worthwhile to merit circumcision?

We decided that they weren't. There are much higher risks associated with other body parts that we could technically do without but we don't remove them. Just my opinion.

My son got circumcised when he was 11 years old, we talked about it and game him the option, and because he accepted the Lord earlier in his life, he decided he wanted to do it. He was fine, and healed fairly quickly..............we have another son who is 4, and we plan to give him the same option.

Our boys were. It really seems to be better to do it on the eighth day (counting the day of birth as one) One of ours was circumcised on the sixth day because it couldn't be done on the weekend. He seemed to not heal quite as fast. Even so, it really wasn't that big of a deal.
I prefered not using gauze (it seemed to stick) but just putting lots of vasaline on it for the first few days.

My fiance had to have it done as a young man, apparently it's quite common that there are problems with the foreskin. He's a brave guy but it was quite painful for him. If God blesses us with sons, we'll definitely have them circumcised to avoid the risk of it having to be done later when it's a more major procedure, they can remember it and they have to go through whatever problem leads to it being necessary.

We had our son snipped, primarily for health reasons. There was a bit of a problem with the ring they used to cover the cut line with - it came loose, so he bled quite a bit. We had to take him back to get that fixed, but afterwards there were no ill effects, and it looks fine now.
