HEY!! I could REALLY use some help please!

Our church just bought a new digital projector.. and now we are tryin to set it up. The only problem is we are runnin into ... mmm difficulties I could you'd say.

We want it hooked it up so that you can fix stuff on the computer monitor... but then when it's all fixed up, u can pick and choose what u actually want to shoot up on the projector screen. This is the way a lot of churches do it, it's easier and a lot cleaner.. but we have no idea about how to go about this.

We talked to one guy, and he mentioned something about plugging the monitor and the projector into TWO seperate slots on the video card... I've never heard of this being done... is this the way to do it? How would u go about this?

Pretty much, I'm really clueless, so anything would help GREATLY!

Be blessed †

Most "new" videocards nowadays support "Dual" monitor (Check the back of you Video Card)

Then with a program like MS PowerPoint, you would set it to play the slide show on the second monitor (The second monitors output would be sent to the Projectors)

A lot of other churches use specific "worship projection" software, like Prologue, etc. These do some of what you are saying without having a dual video card or two cards. You can do it with Powerpoint, but it is not as easy or as visually appealing.

Run a presentation on two monitors

Before you can turn on multiple monitor support, you must have the proper hardware installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. This support is available for Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows 2000 desktop computers; it only is available for laptops running Windows 98.

  1. Turn on multiple monitor support, if necessary.

Before you can turn on dual monitor support (sometimes called multiple monitor support), you must have the proper hardware installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. This support is available for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 desktop computers; it is also available for laptops running Windows 98.
    1. If Control Panel is not already visible, click the Start menu, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the Display icon
    2. Select the monitor icon for the presenter's monitor (usually 1), and then select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box. If this check box is selected and unavailable, the monitor is already designated as the primary monitor. Only one monitor can be selected as the primary monitor at a time. When you select a different monitor icon and complete step 2, this setting for the previous monitor is automatically cleared and becomes accessible again.
    3. Select the secondary monitor icon, and then select the Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor check box.
    Notes

    • You can only show the presenter view on and run the slide show from one monitor.
    • Your computer may have the capability to support multiple monitors, but PowerPoint supports the use of two for a slide show.
    • You can turn off dual monitor support by clearing the Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor check box.
  2. Open the presentation that you want to show on more than one monitor.
  3. On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
  4. In the Display slide show on list, click the monitor you want the show to appear on (for instance, the projector or large monitor, rather than the presenter's monitor or laptop).
  5. Select the Show Presenter View check box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. To start the slide show, click
    pslideshow.gif
    .
  8. To move between slides or trigger the next animation, click the arrow buttons or click a slide in the thumbnail list to show a slide out of sequence.
  9. To end the show, click the End Show button.
Note If you are not using the presenter view, clear the Show Presenter View check box in the Set Up Show dialog box, and run the show as you would on a single monitor, clicking to advance the slides.

From the MS Office Help file

And Power Point can do wonders for both worship (Words on screen), and to go along with the Pastors sermon (Bible Verses, Points, Extra Graphics, Ect)

Only bad thing about using it with the pastors sermon, is they dont always follow there own notes :D

One thing I like about some of the other projection software is the ability to use animated backgrounds, overlay text on video, etc. The problem is $$$. I would have the COOLEST video set-up if it just weren't so expensive!!!:)

we use Powerpoint for the Sermon and a program called "Easy Worship" for the song lyrics.

We have it set up where the second monitor (projector) is an extension of the desktop.

In windows XP under the display properties there will be a check box that says "Extend my desktop"

I believe you can download a demo and try it for 30 days.

I think we paid $399

^^ Easy worship is nice, and lets you have animated backgrounds using videoclips to go with your words.

Also had a Bible plug in so you can call up verses on the fly (Love That), and even has a Nursery Pager :) (Flashes a number on the screen)

It will also play Powerpoint files

Only bummer is no quicktime support :( (Or did they change that ??? )

It WILL show Powerpoint, however it won't show the animation effects in Powerpoint. It will show the slides correctly with NO animation.

I don't know a lot about this. What does this do for you? (in other words, what's the advantage of extending the desktop?)

The "Extending you desktop" will allow the presentation to play FULL screen on the second screen, that beign the one you send to your screens / projector.

While allowing you to keep Powerpoint / Easy Worship / Other Programs running on the first screen, so you can quickly jump around in your presentation.

Example ...
Your pastor has you create a series of slides
Point 1
Note 1 about point 1
Verse supporting point 1
Point 2
Verse supporting point 2

Ect...

Now as everyone who dose slides for a Pastor knows, they will not always follow there notes in order, so you can either keep a sheet of paper with what slide is what point, or use the split screen to jump out of order and keep up with them :)

The people won't see your windows icons and see you "starting" the program

I have a Windows desktop wallpaper that I downloaded from MusiciansFriend.com, which shows an eagle in front of an American flag with a Fender Strat guitar--perhaps you've seen it. One Sunday, our tech people accidently cut the power to our computer and had to reboot in the middle of the service (our 8:15 VERY traditional service!). They forgot to black screen the projector, and the eagle/guitar was on the screen for about 60 seconds until the computer completely booted up and they got the powerpoint started again. About 10 people nearly had strokes and/or heart attacks!!!
