The 24-ton St Peteresgloke ("Bell of St. Peter") was cast in 1922 and is the largest free-swinging bell in the world.

Each day in Mexico City the bells on the Metropolitan Cathedral are rung to announce the 12:00 p.m. Angelus, the Christian devotion to remember the Incarnation of Jesus. The Angelus bells are a call to prayer and to spread good-will to everyone on Earth. The angel referred to in the Angelus prayer is Gabriel, a messenger of God who revealed to Mary that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God. (Luke 1:26-38). One of the coolest things in Mexico City is go to the roof of the Cathedral and watch the bells being rung every day before noon........
