Not taking seriously the following Scripture:
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
[John 15:5]
Meditate on that verse. Let it sink into your mind and soul.
Let that verse drive out the thrills of self-exaltation, the way Jesus drave out the money-changers from the temple.
Pluck out your gainsaying whims and cast it far from you, for it is better to enter into the city of life as a semi-crippled invalid, then to enter into the pit of death with all your faculties about you.
Without Jesus Christ you can do N O T H I N G ! ! !
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
Let your stomach ache at that verse. Face the agonizing reality of your ONE-HUNDRED PERCENT need for the Advocate.
For the majesty of the Lord is arisen, and who's hubris can stand before him?
For there is none that shall have ANY exaltation on that day, except the one and only Lord of hosts.
Weep for a season, that ye may rejoice for an eternity.
O proud man that is able to keep himself from murdering his obnoxious neighbor, you can only restrain yourself because the Lord Jesus gives you that power.
O avid student of the martial arts! Without the Lord, Stephen Hawking would be able to take you down.
Without the Lord Jesus Christ, you can do.... [drumroll please]........
NOTHIIIIIIIIING!!
Stop beholding your own prowess.
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
[John 12:25]
Amen, and Amen!
Let the contents of the third chapter of the book of Job be your conversation, that you may only behold the goodness of God, and nothing else.
For how did you become redeemed from your initial nature of self-destruction? It was the Lord Jesus Christ, and only the Lord. For salvation is of the LORD.
Put away all lying vanities. Be ye separate from the world. Let the world persecute you. Let the world mock you.
They hate your Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they shall hate you.
Lose the world, and gain Christ, that your soul may delight itself in everlasting abundance. For he has prepared a city for you. He has prepared an unspeakably joyful place for you.
What enticements can the world generate that can stand against the infinite overflowing vats of joy in heaven?
Hold fast to the Lord of glory, and he shall prepare a table for you in the presence of your enemies, and anoint your head with oil, and cause your cup to runneth over.
For he came that you may have life, and have it more abundantly.
