  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My mom brought us a Christmas tree today. I will be helping her put it up. It is very beautiful. I cant wait till Christmas :)
We’ll be putting up our Christmas tree soon, too, Luinilote.

We have some “Jesse Tree” ornaments that we use, along with a devotional book The Greatest Gift by Ann Voscamp The Greatest Christmas that we use throughout Advent to help explain the whole story of Jesus. (If you don’t know about Jesse Trees - I didn’t until a few years ago - there is some basic information here:
Teach Kids About the Bible With a Jesse Tree Christmas Project)
We didn’t hear about this until my children were grown, but we used to give them those chocolate Advent calendars, where each day they would open a door and get a chocolate...they loved those when they were little.

Do you do anything specific to celebrate the Advent period leading up to Christmas?

Jesse Tree ornaments sound wonderful :) Im not familiar with Jesse Tree so thank you for sharing that link. The devotional book also sounds wonderful, thank you for sharing that link as well. I do not actually have anything specific that I do to celebrate the Advent period but I know this year Advent will be very healing for me. I will be writing on my blog on here during Advent and thinking about Jesus' birth throughout the whole season.

We live in a small apartment and our tree is ratty and small, but the Nativity set gets a prominent place.
I bet your tree is still adorable. That is beautiful that you have a Nativity scene.
