  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My singles group recently decided to go Christmas Caroling to a local Home for the aged. I usually look forward to doing this, it's fun! I went up and ask about coming along they were asking for voluinteers. I mostly sing pop or country songs with a band so Ii can sing. The person who was putting it together ask me if i can sing in classical style. Of croase I tell them I can't. i wasn't trained that way. Then she asked if I sang under a certain choir director. Then she asked if i would be willing to reherse with them for an hour or so for three days next week. The answer was no to that too. Then I was asked if I had a Navy blue suit... She then said to me that actually they were going to the home to showcase their gifts that God has so richly blessed them with...Now I'm thinking hey arn't we suppose to be sing about the brith of our lord. are we not suppose to do it for him without putting on a show... I walked away in the the 40 minutes that they were asking for people they only had three people that reach the high standards they they were wanting.

Sorry about this rant. It was something that I just needed to get off my chest.

Maybe you should get a group together and do a proper Christmas caroling. Nursing homes always appreciate people coming by. They can never have too many visitors, and it sounds like they are not going to get blessed by the other group anyway. My mom's youth group goes and buys little $1 stuffed animals and treats, puts them in some boxes, and goes to the nursing homes w/ those--singing praises to God the whole time. It blesses the socks off the residents. You can still follow your heart and sing. You don't need some director to do that. Good luck!

There goal was to look as professional as they could. to sound as professional as they could. the simple point is to sing these songs as well as you can and have many enjoying the message of the songs in stead of the selsct few.I would rather have a group of peolpe relaxed and actually enjoying sing the songs then to have afew up tight people performing the songs.

i have been told a few times last summer that God doesn't wear tee shrits or cutoff jeans. What does that sign say at each of the doors of the church? It says Welcome all, come as you are and enjoy fellowship with God.

How on Earth can those people know what God wears? Maybe He doesn't wear anything. lol He's God, He can do what He wants. The residents of a nursing home aren't looking for perfection, they are looking for love and compasion. I would think if you went in there looking perfect to the T, the residents might get a little uncomfortable. These folks are surrounded by professional 24-7 in their lives. They don't need more people in fancy clothes, acting like they are better than them. They need simple people who just love them. If they sing them a song, that's even better! I can bet if you went and sang--even by yourself---they'd enjoy it better than any fancy thing that group is doing.

sorry to hear you've had that experience. It blows my mind what people come up with just so they can keep their little cliques intact.... Just remember God is aware of them using His name to advance their *own* glory not His. As for the ppl in the nursing home.....hello???? They are older and likely can't see or hear clearly to know if someone is in a navy blue suit or singing a little off-key. Again, these people in some cases are forgotten by their families and just would love someone to come in and show they care. If they want to watch a stuffy 'professional' show....there's always cable tv. lol
