  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm going to be hosting a Christmas party for the singles in my church. It will be a fairly small group (less than 10 people), but I wanted to get ideas for different Christmas-themed party games that might be fun for a small group.

I think we will probably do some sort of gift exchange (white elephant probably)...any creative ways of exchanging gifts would be appreciated too!

Thanks!

you could do the gift exchange thing where you put all the gifts in a pile in the middle of the floor and you sit in a circle (chairs or on the floor) and the first person picks a gift and unwraps it. If the second person to pick decides they want the first person's gift they can "steal" it away or they can choose from the pile. This continues until everyone has the gift they wanted. It gets pretty funny and is a good game to play. You can steal your own gift back if you wish.

As for other games, you could play something that is not Christmas themed, but still fun!

There's a game called the "bean game" you can play that can be played in several ways and adapted to the people playing it.

Instead of beans you could use miniature candy bars or something else that's a fun prize to win.

What you do is have everyone think of things they have not done that someone else or many people in the group have done. For example, someone might say "i've never been snow skiing" and those who HAVE been snow skiing would have to give a candy bar (or bean) to the person who has never snow skied. The person who collects the most candy bars wins.

Hope it all goes well and that you all have fun! :)

My parents hosted a massive Christmas party one time when I was little. I remember one game they played and I can't see why it wouldn't work with a smaller group as well. What you do is think of 10 (or however many people are at the party) prominent characters/people in history or who are still alive today and write their names on a piece of paper. For example: Colin Powell, Marge Simpson, Clay Aiken, Yasar Arafat, Betty Boop, etc. When the guests arrive, safety pin the piece of paper with a name on it to their back. The object is for the people to try to quess who they 'are'. To do so they must ask the other guests there various questions such as "Am I still alive today?" or "Am I involved in politics?" The others must answer the questions without saying the name or any part of the name. This game helps people to meet/talk with people they haven't before, and it's also a good conversation starter. You could give whomever figures out who they 'are' first a prize.

Or, what about Christmas caroling for a few of your neighbors? *sigh* Very few people Christmas-carol anymore. :sigh:

LifeInYou had a great suggestion! I played the guess who I am game at a Christmas party once and it was a blast! I also played a similar one at a wedding shower were two people were paired up and were a famous couple of the Bible. Me and my friend Gordon were Adam and Eve LOL

Another really fun one is Christmas trivia, you could do sort of a battle of the sexes, guys against gals.

I love the animal game and king elephant. King elephant is an easy game to learn, but hard to explain. If anyone doesn't know what it is i'll explain. The animal game is great too. It's where a group sits down in a circle and once person is in the middle. Everyone picks an animal name for themself like chimp, dog, cat, ameoba, etc.... Then somone in the circle says their name and the person they eat.... Ex. Dog eats cat. Then the person in the middle has to hit the cat with a rolled up news paper on the head before the cat can respond by eating somthing else by saying cat eats elephant or whatever. It's a lot of fun but dangerous with a very violent group!

Oh! Another one that's really fun is where you give everyone a few items and they have to construct the best looking Christmas hat. Here's what you'll need:

1 sheet of green tissue paper for each person
1 sheet of red tissue paper for each person
1 large size metal paper clip for each person

And that's it. Each person has exactly one minute to construct the most unique and creative hat. Have one person be the judge or let everyone applaud for the one they like best.

tell us more about your guests... ages? all Christians? will kids be there? lots of singles, or married couples? professional types?
The ages range from 25 to about 53ish. All are Christians...no kids, only singles. Only 1 or 2 of the people will be guys...the rest are girls. One of the girls will be confined to a wheel chair, so I don't want to do anything too physically-exerting (she's also very ill and has little energy).

Last year our high school group had a video scavenger hunt. They had three teams of 3-4 kids each. They did things like find the brightest star (the one that can be seen all over town that shines over the college campus); find a lifesize nativity and play the part of one of the characters in the scene; stop at a house with a great light display and tell the owners you enjoy it; stop someone on the street and have them sing you a Christmas carol; take a plate of cookies to the rescue mission; parade around inside a Mexican Restaurant singing Feliz Navidad. They had a time limit and met back at our house after. A certain number of points was given for each thing completed on a list of 20 or so. Winner was team with most points, and each team member got one of those huge hershey's candy bars. The kids had a great time, but wanted to do that every "other" year, so I'm here looking for ideas for this year now.
