I don't start college until later this month, but I am worried about the CU at my college... I used to go, but left because I thought it was too introspective. It rejected members who did not share exactly the same faith as the core members. Although I was welcomed as part of the fellowship, other people in my class were ignored or rejected for having different views or belonging to a different denomination.
Leadership has changed since last year so I pray that it will be better this year :).
As for the joys of living for Christ, well that has to be the privilege of seeing non-believers progress in their own journey to Christ. It can be seen very clearly in some people at college and it is such a joy to be part of their life.

I totally agree with you about the joys. i also agree with you about the core members rejecting others, if they are true Christans it shouldn't matter what their denominations.

I really hope it is better for you - let us know!

Those who are going to uni are you nervous?:help: :)
I'm starting Uni in February next year, I'll hopefully be skipping across the ditch to study creative arts at the University of Melbourne. I'm not nervous... I'm so excited I can hardly contain my self!!

I started uni last year...my 3rd semester is to start in october and I like studying very much.

It's just sad that our CU isn't very active (in fact the only thing they do is put up an ad for some activity at the backdoor once a semester or so) :(

I'm not a member yet - I know some of the poeple who lead it cause they attend my church but that's it. I think the problem is that they are students themselves and don't have a lot of time to do things and that there is only one group for our whole university of about 8.000 students and a lot of departments.
I've met christians at uni who've never heard of that group at all but the good thing is that I know they care a lot about exchange students and students who don't live in Graz so that they get into the group...and for the students living in Graz it's not that important to have a CU as they have their christian friends and their churches here.

Everyone is scared when they first go there :)

I remember my first time at Uni. It's not the same as it be for you cause we've got a different system over here and I'm not living on campus. It was to get myself registered for my courses (you've got to register yourself for every single course over here and as there are limited places there is a waiting list and you've got to queue up to put your name down). I went to Uni at 5:30 am just to make sure I'll get a place (registration started at 10 am) and I wasn't the first one. We had a great time waiting outside the room - chatting and so on - and that's how I got to know a lot of my fellow students :)

All first years are in the same situation. They don't know what will happen, how the courses will be, new friends, living at Campus,...and they are scared of it :)

My tip is just relaze and be yourself and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the tip... :)

It's good that I won't have to live at campus, because the university is very close to where I live now. :) I still don't know what to expect and what to do when I first go there. But I'm mostly scared because I'm extremely shy, so it's hard for me to make friends... and I don't want to be totally alone there.

I'm kind of shy too, but making friends becomes easier as you've got something in common - subject of study or being a first year - I know it feels weird to start talking to someone you don't know but after you've done it a few times it'll get easier....and most of the students are happy to have someone to talk to as they don't know anybody themselves :)

Getting to know people at Uni is very easy if you just start talking to the person next to you....but it's harder to make good friends (at least for me - maybe it's easier if you like to go out in the evenings and go with people you know form Uni - which I can't as I live outside the city and there's no bus in the evening :( ).

When starting a conversation with someone I don't know it helps me to say to myself: The others just in the same situation I am in and others don't bite :) (there's a proverb in German stating that dogs who bark don't bite - and I just adopt that for people ;) )

Hope this helps you a bit

I've done English for a year now and will go on with that and start doing some courses about media, press,...and one about computers :)

What do you start?

The problem with the registrations is that I've got to register for each course - most of them on different days and different places - but after the first year I'm used to it ;)
