I have been aware of this for awhile now and I have a trailer that goes to a campground every year that the church has and myself and others are prepared and we are led to do this as I believe many others are. It is not just to survive but to also help others. The biggest thing is being led by God as it will be very dangerous and if the government is involved it wioll only be by Gods grace and mercy that you will be able to avoid detection with the equipment they have now.

You are correct 91, I agree with all you have said.
The main reasons I am trying to get this forum started and the main reason for our prepper books is to convince people to get started doing this. If I just convince one family (by Gods' grace and power) to be of like mind, I will know that it is well worth the effort!
We pray for the government and our leaders constantly. We are told to do this so that we will have the peaceable environment in which to spread the gospel. I am sure you are well aware of this:

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Unfortunately our government has moved into the area of legislating abominations very much like the pagan and wicked nations of old. This spells bad news for the nation. The Land has already started vomiting out the inhabitants with weather extremes and economic chaos. In the Spirit I see the words "CONFUSION" and "CHAOS." This is in all areas of our civilization. The leaders and experts are perplexed. It will only get worse. The land is sick. This is partially why we are prepping. It is a simple matter of taking care of our families and loved ones.

The Word I get is that judgement is certain for this nation and is coming. It has passed the tipping point and we have been weighed in the balance and found wanting. I do not know when or even how but as of right now economic collapse is a real possibility, the muslims wish to destroy us, Russia(the kingdom of the north)is rising up, it brings to mind Deutermanns vision, civil unrest is another possibility which brings forth martial law and of course the anti hoarding act which is another very good reason to hide your provisions

I know that is easy to say. But I assure you that you will be much less fearful with a couple dozen buckets and boxes of food in long term storage. No need to get preachy or teachy with you sister. You know the truth better than most! You are strong in the Lord and the power of Might! You do not have a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Storage space...
That is not uncommon sister. My daughter has the same issue. She has a two room house with not a lot of room.
I have seen some pretty innovative solutions. I know of one where they store all the food in 5 gallon buckets. They arrange these into a rectangle the shape and size of their bed. In their case it is 7 X 5. They cover the araingment with 1/2 inch sheets of plywood and they place the bed on top. There you have 35 buckets of food.

This buckets in this image have no lids. The lids seal very well, and in fact you need a special tool to open them.

Some people make end tables or tables out of stacked buckets or boxes. The Mormons sell all their canned food in boxes that each hold 6 #10 cans. People sack these boxes two high and three across, cover the stack with a fabric, and call it an end table or bedside table. We currently have almost 32 5 gallon buckets filled with food packed in Mylar bags. We have all of our prepper food stored in our bedroom! against one wall we have a 4 x 5 stack of buckets. Against another wall we have 12 more. We have several boxes of the Mormon food across the foot of the bed. We have a small 5000 BTU air conditioner to keep the temperature at about 70 during the hot months. Food lasts longer if you keep it in the 70s. You lose about 1 year of storage life for every degree of temperature over 70. Keeping it all together in one place means you do not have to keep the entire house that cool all the time. Unless you have tons of space, this may be a little difficult, especially if you want to keep it hush hush.

Thanks Dids. I've been thinking about this a lot lately but because I'm alone (I have family around but we are basically all doing our own thing) it just seems to make me a bit fearful. I've heard people in my church talking about being prepared but they too are just doing their own thing. I could bring up maybe getting together on it, but our church building burned down a few months ago (don't know where it could be stored) and we're meeting in members homes....one of those homes is an old church. It's pretty cool.

Anyway....

Regarding prepping, one major concern is food safety. So keeping the canisters under an AC is a good idea. Wondering if the needed space and right temperature could be achieved by storing them in a dug hole (with drainage, blocking the sun, and keeping them off the ground)?

Purchasing heirloom seeds is a great idea and keeping them cool is important. One major problem for us is we're awful gardeners.

Have you used a solar oven (cooker) or rain barrels? If you posted about it earlier, sorry. I didn't read most earlier posts because I'm already convinced that we need to prepare and it's Biblical.

We watch "Doomsday Preppers" on National Geographic to consider their ideas.

As to coolness...
Yes, many preppers have root cellars or underground storage areas. There are many ways to do this. If you have a cellar in your home with a cement floor, consider digging down underneath the cellar floor so the room is about 3 feed below. You need about 3 feet to achieve the desired 70 degrees year round temperature. Of course take care doing all this, you do not want to allow for leakage into your sub floor room or cellar. Another more recent recommendation that will not attract a lot of attention is to have a non-functional septic tank installed in your back yard. Have them drop it in the hole and then just leave it. You can then cover it, add a hatch, and build shelves in the structure. It will be waterproof and insulated. Just make sure you have at least 3 feet of soil above the structure.

Currently we live 150 miles away from our home for work reasons. We rent in the community where we work, and we rent our home. We have not actually started any site preparations at our home. But we do plan to max it out, hopefully before the stuff hits the fan. We will install solar panels, a rain catch system. An aqua-farming system which is exciting. It creates a mini bio-environment that is virtually self sustaining. that includes fish and a hydroponic garden that is fed by the water in the fish tank (actually an above ground pool with tilapia) and the fish in turn are fed by the garden. There will be chickens, rabbits, a couple dwarf goats, and maybe a small hog lot. Don't forget the compost heap.

In our prepper philosophy, we are not going for survival, we are going for self-sufficiency. We want to be able to feed ourselves and have enough produce with which to barter or sell. It does not matter how much you prep, your will never store enough to last more than a couple years. We are shooting for three. That should be more than enough transition time to move from supermarket to self-sufficiency.

The "Doomsday Prepper" show, while interesting, has too much emphasis on nuts who collect guns, set traps for people, and generally are more survival than prepper. A couple show emphasized the need for community prepping what I think is idea for a church. Guns may be necessary, but that is not the focus of Christian prepping.

I find that most people who are fearful are so because they are not prepared or they are unsure of the future. Once people resolve to get prepared and actually start preparing, then you will find the fear begins to ease off. Natural fear is not a bad thing. You should be afraid of standing next to a cliff. You should be afraid when driving in bad weather. That is normal and natural fear. You defeat that fear by moving away from the cliff and pulling to the side of the road. Once you do that needs to be done, the fear goes away. MHO.

Yeah, the aim is self sufficiency. Looked into diy solar hot water heater, raising fish in barrels (takes a lot of water), and planting bamboo.

I think if one bought a 12 foot, above ground swimming pool, filled it with city water, and then used some purifying chemicals it might do the trick. I am not sure rain water would. I wonder about the purity of rain water.

There is another interesting dichotomy in the thinking of Christians who oppose prepping because to do so shows a lack of faith. Yet almost to a tee they also will use Job as an example of a faithful man suffering. Job, say they, was a faithful and righteous man who was blameless before God. Therefore, they reason, if God allowed Job to suffer, then we can expect the same.

This does not make sense.

How does this figure into their argument against Christian prepping? If you as a faithful believer can expect suffering in this life, then by what logic can you claim to always be free from suffering and therefore never need to prep? To the contrary, if they reason that we will suffer regardless of our righteousness and faith, then should that not support the argument for prepping?

Ultimately we want to come up with a natural filtration method of cleansing water. One way is to maintain a supply of charcoal for filtration. Run your rainwater through a large charcoal filter. The big issue is cleansing the water from biological.

I believe there is a system that uses sand for purification, also they do sell tablets for that as well. Have never tried them so not sure how well they work

I have heard of that too...
I am not sure how pure the sand would have to be.
Have to look into that.

Great idea. It would probably be a low-debate forum, too-- less work for mods!
There doesn't seem to be a place for it now, so current discussions pop up in denominational groups or advice or current events. A lot of people could benefit from a prepper base of information. And it might bring in more from outside the forum.

You may be correct about it being an informational type forum..
But you know there is no small amount of debating about whether Christians should prep. Almost everywhere I go there are good faithful believers who think the prepping is a sign of having no faith. It is truly an oddity to me and one I found needed addressing, hence the first 52 posts in this thread.
But I also think you are correct that a Christian Prepperrs forum would draw people to the site. There are millions of preppers in the US and a good percentage of them are Christian. It may even draw unbelievers who then could be exposed to the gospel.

We are currently looking at several kinds of rain water catch systems. One I found has a filter that will do 27000 gallons of water....
