Today there are hundreds of thousands of Christians who are "prepping" for an uncertain future. I suspect there are actually millions. One poll states there are over 3 million preppers in the USA. I would suggest that the majority of these are Christians.
I want to suggest CF establish a forum for Christian preppers. Not "doomsday" preppers because as believers we know that there is not going to be a doomsday as such. We know Jesus is going to return, set up His glorious kingdom... and we rejoice! But we also know that as that wonderful day approaches, there will be much trouble and tribulation; both man made and natural.
I believe a Christian Prepper forum would be positive and helpful to those believers who are in prepper mode. It would also serve to help convince other believers to begin prepping for that uncertain future.

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

opposed to this suggestion
That is a common objection to Christian prepping. Lets look at that and see if that really means what people say it means? Lets see if they really believe it means what they say it means?

If you twist these verses and use them to dispute prepping, then I have to ask you if you practice what you preach? Do you have more than a days’ worth of food in the pantry? Why? If you believe that Jesus was talking against prepping here then you should have only enough food for today. Jesus said “So never worry about tomorrow.” More than a “today” means tomorrow and according to some He said not to prep for tomorrow. You should not even be prepping for tomorrow morning! Do you have health insurance, life insurance, or a 401k? Why are you prepping for future times? Prepping is prepping, regardless if it is provision for health or provision for food. Do you have a retirement plan? Why would you do that? That is really prepping for the future! That is prepping for years ahead.
What I am suggesting is that if you really thought Jesus was talking against common sense prepping here, then why do you do anything? Why do you work? Why do you have a house, house payments, rent, car payments? Birds have nests in a tree. Are your accommodations more than that? I assume you live in a cave? Birds are naked. If Jesus meant what you claim He meant, then why are you even wearing clothes?
If you truly believe that Jesus never intended you to do anything to take care of yourself and your family, then you need give your house and car away - today. All this has to be done by midnight. You must start afresh at 12. If you are prepping for “tomorrow” (as in after midnight), then you are acting out of line with your interpretation of what Jesus said. In fact give everything away including your clothes, shoes, and money. At midnight you must strip yourself and your family down naked and go sit down by the side of the road and wait for clothes to appear on your body and food to drop out of heaven into your mouths! Go right now and tell your spouse, your parents, your children, and your pastor that this is your plan because you do not believe in prepping for “tomorrow.” Call your workplace and tell them you are going to work one day at a time and you expect to be paid on a daily basis. Call the IRS and tell them you will only pay your taxes on a daily basis. All your accounts have to be cleared each day and every day. Burn your clothes and throw away your shoes each night at midnight. Storing up shoes and clothes for tomorrow is prepping and you seem to think that is wrong. Burn your money and everything at midnight. You are not allowed to prep for tomorrow. This is what you much do if you insist that Jesus was talking about not prepping for “tomorrow.” Of course all this is foolish and I only want you to see how foolish it is.

Do You Practice What You Preach?

But I will take this even further. If you insist that this passage pertains to common sense prepping, and you do not act as I have described, then that makes you a Pharisee and a hypocrite. You are telling others to not prepare for tomorrow while you yourself have a pantry full of food, money in the bank, insurance policies, and fat retirement plans. These verses pertain to you:

Matthew 23:4 KJV
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Some criticize those who prep for their lives, calling them faithless and fearful. At the same time these critics have stores of money and goods preparing themselves for a long and comfortable life. They will burden others under the lack of what is coming, while they themselves are storing up more than enough. What will they do when the inevitable comes? Will they help those they have dissuaded? The truth is, they will not because they themselves will be begging. They may even show up at the door of someone who has faithfully prepped, who they now criticize and ridicule. If they come to my door I will bless you and feed them. Yet what will they do for all those they dissuaded? Will they look into the eyes of the little children they have helped starve and justify themselves as the little ones pine away? We will leave that to God. Instead of being a blessing and a help to those in need, they will just be another family begging for a handout. Worse they will feel forced to join in with the mobs of marauders who rob and pillage. I pray the Lord help them pass this temptation.

Serious For Your Family, Church, and Community

Am I pushing this too hard? I do not think so. I only say these things to show you how foolish it is to interpret what Jesus said in this way. You do not even believe in this interpretation else you would live day to day as I have described. You do not live “day to day” because you know in your heart that is not what He meant. He was simply saying not to continually obsess and worry about these things. As a prepper I do not worry at all about tomorrow. First I know that God is in heaven and He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His people. He will meet all our needs, even when we cannot. Second, our family has put God, His kingdom, and His righteousness first, so we do not worry about all these things. Finally we know that we have acted in faith and with common sense regarding what we see to be coming in the near future. We have acted responsibly and with common sense regarding tomorrow. We are ready and so there is nothing to be afraid of. We live on the coast, and if a tsunami came and washed our preps out to sea, we are ok with that. Everything we have done has been done in responsible faith (not fearful faith) with care and concern for our family. That same faith will carry us through. I do not think those who have done nothing can say this and have confidence in their tomorrow. These are the ones who will worry.

A case for prepping 1

After years of discussions and study, I concluded that most of those who oppose prepping do so from a faux spiritual/religious stance. Many think to prepare for physical and material hard times is unspiritual and carnal. A true believer, say they, will not worry about such materialistic concerns. They arrive at this conclusion by erroneous interpretations of a handful of scriptural passages and a false notion that to seek to survive in the natural somehow causes you to forfeit your standing in the spiritual. “Spiritual” people are not concerned with saving the physical lives of their families. We, of course, disagree with this thinking and will present scripture and logic to defeat it. We hold that it is both irresponsible and unscriptural to abandon the care and concern for your family and loved ones based on some false notion of spirituality and faith. Nowhere does the scripture tell us to neglect the needs of our families, whether present or future, in favor of some imaginary spiritual enlightenment. God is not asking us and our families to risk starvation so that we can gain spiritual points. To the contrary, the scriptures demand that we see to the needs of our family, and failure to do so equates us to an infidel.

1 Timothy 5:8 KJV
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

We will show that this requirement does not end at midnight of the day, nor are we exempt from it because “hard times” are upon us. Jesus said that when we by experience and common sense know what is coming we should prepare.

Matthew 16:2-3 KJV
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

When we, by common sense and a solid knowledge of history, can see what is coming, we should discern the signs and the times. What do we see coming in our immediate future? This should be obvious to all. Jesus was implying that if you saw bad weather coming, you should see it and beware. If the sky showed you bad weather coming would you prepare for a journey? If you were warned that floods were coming, would you take the kids for a hike in the woods? If it became evident that a huge blizzard was overdue, would you launch out with the family to the mountains for a camp-out? Certainly not. You would run to the store and made sure you had batteries, firewood, bottled water, and some games for the kids. You would do all those common sense preparations that anyone with a sound head would do. You would prepare to weather the storm. Nobody would count you faithless or unspiritual if you reacted in this way. You would be a good parent. If you refused to take these simple common sense preparations because it was “unspiritual”… many would count you as a religious nut, and rightly so.
The question I must ask is what is the difference between prepping for the weekend and prepping for a month, or a year? The difference is if you fail to prep for the weekend, you may be inconvenienced and uncomfortable. But if you fail to prep for a month or a year, you and your family may die. There is a serious dichotomy in the thinking that says we should prepare lest we be uncomfortable, but refuse to prepare to when our lives and the lives of our families are forfeit.

A Case For Prepping 2

These concepts can be seen in the Lord’s parable of the 10 virgins.

Matthew 25:1-9 KJV
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Some prepared and some did not. Those who did not prepare were deemed foolish. Those who did prepare were deemed wise. Granted this is a parable about the coming of the Lord, not about prepping. Yet the underlying facts of the parable have to be true in order for the lesson to strike home. It was accepted that being prepared for a future event was wise and failure to prepare was foolish. If it were not wise and prudent to prepare for events in the natural, then those actions could not be used to promote for events in the spiritual. This truth continues to hold true. It has always been foolish to fail to prepare. It always will be.

A case for prepping 3

Christian Preppers and The Dearth

Acts 11:27-30 KJV
27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:
30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

What would you have to give your neighbor if a “dearth” occurred today? Would you be on the giving side or the receiving side? If you are not prepping, you not only have nothing to give, but you will be depending on the charity of others to survive. You will be standing in the relief line. Please note that the dearth was “throughout all the world.” Christian areas were not exempt. There were no miraculous interventions to save them. No food out of the sky. Christians who were not prepared did not have food fall down upon them from heaven. Yet the Christians in Jerusalem had more than enough to spare. Regardless of how or why, the Jerusalem believers were prepared for such an event. They had so much that they were able to relieve those who did not prepare. If a dearth occurred today, what would you have to give if the prophets called for all to give according to their ability? I have a half ton of rice. Do you? I am prepared not only to care for my family, but to help the needy. What will your ability be when the prophets call? I exhort you to be like the Jerusalem believers and prepare today. Especially in uncertain times such as we live.

Joseph, the King of Preppers

Genesis 6:21 KJV
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

We all know the story of Joseph and his brothers. Joseph was sold into Egypt by his brothers where he eventually became the Pharaohs right hand man. By his council 7 years worth of preps were put back to cover the coming 7 years of famine. Not only did he save the entire land of Egypt from starvation, he saved his family who later came to Egypt to by food from these stores.

A case for prepping 5

Ants Prep Lazybones!

Proverbs 6:6 –11 (NLT)
6. Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!
7. Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work,
8. they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.
9. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up?
10. A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
11. then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”

Ants store up tremendous amounts of food in their underground homes. Some ants do nothing else but harvest seeds and nectar and put away these food sources for future use. It is not a matter of faith or no faith. It is a matter of the facts of life. If you want to survive, you prepare for tomorrow.

• Ants harvest food for the entire summer season. When winter comes, they spend months underground living solely on the food they prepped during the winter. They are master preppers.
• Bears and other mammals store up huge resources of fat during the summer in anticipation of the coming winter hibernation. God created the bodies of these creatures to be prepping machines. These creatures do so instinctively without prompting. Nobody is arguing with them whether or not they should consume large quintiles of food as winter approaches. It would be silly to suggest to them that they are “without faith” when they do what nature tells them to do. Are we any less creatures on this earth? Are we any less subject to times of famine and calamity? Should we just sit back and do nothing as the dam above the town begins to break? Some would say yes. It is simply wrong-headed and dangerous to assume this attitude. Be as intelligent as the old bear. Get ready for what is coming.
• Bees work endlessly storing honey in their hives. They create so much honey that humans are able to harvest the majority of their honey stores and not endanger the survival of the hive.

This is the world God created. This is the natural and normal times and seasons of His world. It is simply a fact of life that we prepare for the lean times we see coming. It is wrong headed and silly to oppose the common sense prepping we are suggesting. Nature supports the concept. Logic supports the concept. Most importantly, God and His Word support the concept.
Preparing for uncertain times is the natural and normal thing to do. We do this not out of doubt fueled by fear, rather we do this in the fear that results from God’s warnings.

Wise or Stupid? Check your oil stocks and find out.

Proverbs 21:20 CLV
20 Coveted treasure and oil are in the homestead of the wise man, Yet the stupid man swallows it all up.

Do you have oil and treasure stored up in your homestead? The word treasure here also carries the idea of a “cellar” or “depository.” That is what preppers have. Wise men have root cellars and food depositories. Do you have a root cellar or a depository? Do you have stuff stored away or do you eat it all up? No need to dwell long here. I think it puts a nail in the coffin of any argument against prepping. God says you are stupid if you do not prep. I would certainly not like to be on the wrong side of that estimation!^_^

A case for prepping 7

“Why do you worry…”
Many Christians who oppose prepping use Jesus’ words in Matthew 6 to justify that opposition.

Matthew 6:24-34 ISV
24 "No one can serve two masters, because either he will hate one and love the other, or be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches!"
25 "That's why I'm telling you to stop worrying about your life--what you will eat or what you will drink--or about your body--what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn't it, and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don't plant or harvest or gather food into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. You are more valuable than they are, aren't you?
27 Can any of you add a single hour to the length of your life by worrying?
28 And why do you worry about clothes? Consider the lilies in the field and how they grow. They don't work or spin yarn,
29 but I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them.
30 Now if that is the way God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and thrown into an oven tomorrow, won't he clothe you much better--you who have little faith?
31 "So don't ever worry by saying, 'What are we going to eat?' or 'What are we going to drink?' or 'What are we going to wear?'
32 because it is the gentiles who are eager for all those things. Surely your heavenly Father knows that you need all of them!
33 But first be concerned about God's kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be provided for you as well.
34 So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

They take these words to mean we should not prepare for the future in any way. They claim to be concerned about the future is worrying and therefore unbelief. We will show the error of their interpretation. Not only will we show the error, but we will show that even they do not believe that Jesus is telling us to not prepare for events that we see and know are coming.

Look at what He said:

“That's why I'm telling you to stop worrying about your life…”

• He did not say “do not prepare for your life…”
• He said “do not worry about your life…”
• Do not think that worrying by itself is going to accomplish anything.
• Worrying by itself is not going to put food on the table.
• Worrying by itself is not going to put shoes on the kids’ feet.
• Worrying by itself is not going to make you grow an inch.

He is not saying “do not attend to these things,” He is saying “do not think worrying by itself is going to accomplish anything.” You can sit by the window doing nothing, wringing your hands all day, worrying and fretting. But this will not help you at all. Faith in your Father is what is what we need. And sometimes faith means acting on what you know is coming. If you believe hard times are coming, acting on what you believe is what is going to save you. Inaction does nothing to help. He is not saying, “do not prepare for tomorrow.” He is saying do not just sit there and worry! Act! Whether that action is faith or common sense preparations. The message is that worrying is useless. The fact that you work, have food in your pantry, have insurance, have retirement plans, and constantly plan for tomorrow proves that you do not even believe Jesus is saying "do not plan for tomorrow."

Noah Prepped – An Ark!

Hebrews 11:7 KJV
7. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith

Look at the phrases:
Noah…
Warned of God of things not seen as yet…
Moved with fear…
Prepared (prepped) and ark…
To the saving of his house…

His act of preparation in building an ark was a testimony to the world of what was coming. God counted his work of preparation as faith and righteousness. Believing God and acting on that belief is faith. In this case, Noah acted in common sense of fear what was coming. He knew the dam was about to burst, and he acted like anyone with sense would act. He prepared! This was not a fear born of doubt. This was a fear born of faith. He believed God. His actions saved his house. His wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives would have all perished had Noah not acted on his belief about what was coming. He was mocked and ridiculed by the unbelievers. He no doubt was called an alarmist and had it been today he would have been called a fear monger. Yet his actions saved his life and the lives of his family. If he did not have faith to prep and build the ark how would he have faired as the waves overcame him and his family? His faith would not have lifted him up out of the deluge. Will your faith create food out of nothing? Will your faith save you from freezing cold and burning heat? Does it now? Do you have the faith to quit your job and just live on nothing today during relatively good times? If you cannot do it now, what will you do when the truly hard times come?

Jesus told the Disciples to Bug Out!

Matthew 24:
15. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16. Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17. Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18. Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20. But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

There are those today who would say these fleeing Christians are “of little faith.” Bible students suggest that the “bug out” location is Petra, a hidden location in the Judean dessert carved out of stone in the third century AD. If you disobeyed Jesus in this case you would not only be in disobedience, you would be endangering yourself and your family. Would you just sit home and expect angels or some imaginary army to come help you? God gives us the means and ways to survive. Never does He say, “Be faithful by staying home and doing nothing.” If you disobey and remain, you may find yourself in the middle of the greatest tribulation of all time!

Lot Bugged Out!

Genesis 19:14 KJV
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

Boy doesn’t that sound familiar! Many times preppers are laughed and scorned by those they try to convince. Lot told them to “bug out” of Sodom because He believed what was coming. So cold and hard where his sons-in-law that they thought Lot was a joke. In the end they had to be dragged out of harms way because they simply would not listen.

Genesis 19:15-18 KJV
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

If I were you I would not count on angels showing up to drag you and your family to safety. If you do not have the faith to prepare for what anyone with common sense can see to be coming, don’t count on angels to save you. Lot and company were just stubborn. They, like many today, had their souls vexed by the evil world where they lived. They were so hardened to faith, life, and common sense, that even when angles came to save them they lingered right up to the last moment, and even then had to be dragged away.

2 Peter 2:6-8 KJV
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

I pray that you are not so vexed in your soul with the foolishness of this world that you give in to the mocking and ridicule endured by Christian preppers. I pray that you see what is coming and do what anyone with common sense and who cares for their loved ones would do. It is not difficult nor is it overly expensive. But it crucial that you start soon. On “day one” it will be too late. I pray you do not find yourself in those crushing crowds fighting for the last bottle of water and squashed tomato.

Are You Naïve?

Proverbs 27:12 ISV
12. Those who are prudent see danger and take refuge, but the naïve continue on and suffer the consequences.

Naïve means to be immature and inexperienced. We often see young people launch out in life and suffer due to their inexperience. I recall being young, in my teens and early twenties. Like most young people I thought I knew it all. It did not take long to see this was not the case. As the scripture says, I “suffered the consequences.” Only with God’s patience and help did I and my young family make it through those times. Yet today we see many “mature” believers failing after this scripture. They are not being “prudent.” Prudent means to be sensible and practical. They have fallen prey to a pseudo-spirituality that says we can just sit back and do nothing and expect to be treated like babies. Instead of “taking refuge” from the obvious dangers of the coming storm, we lead our families out into the maelstrom with the presumptuous belief that all will be well. Is that what you do today? Do you take refuge inside when a storm comes or do you just stand out in the road thinking a big hand is going to come out of the sky and cover you up? This is what the naïve do. The verse says they just “continue on” oblivious to the consequences of their actions (or inaction). My father used to say that some people do not have the sense to come in from out of the rain. This apparently is true even today. Unfortunately, in this case, when the rain starts to fall it will be to late. They will be “suffering the consequences” of their inaction. If what I am saying offends you, I am truly sorry. But if my words spur you to action then I praise the Lord! I have no other interest in this other than seeing you and your family survive. I am not asking for you money, your allegiance, or even your thanks. I only ask you to be wise and take some relatively simple steps to save you and your family. Encourage others to do the same. If you never need these preps, then praise the Lord! You can always use them later!

Those who honor God will need barns to store the plenty.

Proverbs 3:9-10 KJV
9. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

If believers are not to prep, then why are there barns? Barns should have no place in the lives of the faithful. Apparently they do. We have to put our blessings into something! Plenty is nice! Plenty is to be expected. You will need to store this plenty somewhere. Share it with others if you like. Start or contribute it to a food pantry at your church.

A case for prepping 13

Abraham and Isaac were blessed.

Genesis 13:
2. Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

Genesis 24:
35. "The Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

Genesis 26:
12. Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him.
13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous;
14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.

Genesis 30:
43. Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

Where would someone put all this stuff? This is way more that they could consume in a day, or even a year. Yet they had all this in store.

Your Stored Goods are Blessed

Part of Gods’ blessing on His people was for them to be blessed in their store.

Deuteronomy 28:5 KJV
5. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

Rehoboam built whole cities where he stored “victuals, and of oil and wine.”

2 Chronicles 11:11 KJV
11. And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

Jehosaphat also had so much abundance that cities were designated to store it.

2 Chronicles 17:11-13 KJV
11. Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
12. And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.

“and he built in Judah castles, and cities of stores; castles for the defense of his kingdom, and store cities to lay up corn, and wine, and all provisions, in case of an invasion, or against a time of war.”
John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

Hezekiah had storehouses.

2 Chronicles 32:26-29 KJV
26. Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
28. Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
29. Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

All through the old and New Testaments we see Gods’ people prospering and putting their increase into storage.

We all stand in faith with God’s promises

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from my enemies (Psa. 18:2-3).

You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day; nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you (Psalms 91:5-7).

Why prep?

150 years ago “prepping” would not be considered unusual.

“A generation or two ago “prepping” was simply what everyone did: prepare for hard times ahead of time to increase one’s chances of survival. Putting up food, saving seeds, setting aside money, and consistently living below one’s means was just what was smart to do.
“Modern” life and a focus on debt-based living has created an artificial bubble of stability that people in the first-world live in. I’ve heard it compared to living in a salt-water aquarium. It’s nice in there. The temperature, salinity, and food levels are carefully controlled and provide the fish with what they need to live comfortably. That doesn’t change the fact that there is a harsh world beyond the glass, however. And few of the “fish” understand how fragile their artificial support-mechanisms are or how much they depend on them. If the temperature gets turned up, the power goes out, or someone forgets to feed them the fish will all quickly die.
Like the fish, most people live blissfully unaware of how abruptly their lives could be turned upside down. Take away even one or two supports and the entire structure of modern life begins to wobble dangerously. When people see the institutions they’ve come to depend on fail, they’ll likely begin to panic. And frightened people can be dangerous to themselves and others.
I, as much as anyone, enjoy living with modern comforts. But, like other preppers, I try to structure my life so that I don’t HAVE to rely on them should they fail. I have a Plan B” just in case. I look to older attitudes and older ways of doing things…not just because they provide safety but because they improve my quality of life now, whether disaster ever happens or not.“

The Organic Prepper

Before the age of oil and corner super-markets, everyone prepped. It was normal to build up your pantry for the coming year. Many crops would only be available during certain growing periods. Without modern freezers and refrigeration, the amount and kinds of food that could be stored were greatly limited. Virtually all households maintained a “root cellar” to preserve foods. My great-great grandfather was a mountain guide in the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York. If you were to tell him that prepping was crazy, he would back away from you knowing who the real crazy one was. Failure to prep in the 1860s meant possible starvation and death in the long cold winters of the Adirondack Mountains.

Prepping was not for doomsday, it was for next month, the advent of the next growing season, and the winter months when food production was reduced to nothing! It was either prep or starve.
